This is what happens when I sketch without a pose in mind, make a mistake and then just play around trying to practice some foreshortening. XD Quiet happy with this guy and he's the first representative of a new fantasy universe I've been working on for a while now. ^^
Dezmin sighed looking up as he walked the forest path. The nearest town was still a few hours away and already the sun had nearly sunk below the horizon. It might as well have set by now as the dense forest around him blocked most of what remained of the light. Still being Elven had it's benefits. Dezmin still saw quiet well in the low light and his ears twitched at the sounds of the forest. Still though it was possible for things to ellude an elf's senses. Especially one who's mind was elsewhere. Dezmen was too busy thinking about the Orc from the last town who'd actually stayed till morning and wondering if perhaps there might be a similar encounter in the next. He was caught completely off guard when out of nowhere a human and a dwarf sprang out in front of and behind him.
"Well what do we have here? Can I help you gentlemen?" Dezmin asked looking between the two with a smirk.
"Give us your bag and any gold and your person." The human said his accent thick and unintelligent. Obviously from Stalkan.
"Well I would but I'd like to stay at an Inn tonight. I'm quite tired of camping." Dezmin said rather calmly as though this were the normal chit chat.
"Listen this doesn't need to get rough. Do the smart thing." The Dwarf said sounding more articulate with his hand resting on a sword's hilt.
"Ok guys. I'm gonna be straight with ya. I'm tired. It's been a long day. I'm not gonna restrain myself. Walk away and I'll forget this happened." Dezmin told him sounding more serious now.
"He ain't listening. Lets just gut him already!" The human said now brandishing a poorly cared for dagger.
"Last chance. Drop the bag or die." The Dwarf said coldly.
Dezmin heaved a sigh. "Fine then. Have it your way."
With that he unslung his pack and tossed it into the tall grass. The two came at Dezmin as motes of light floated around him. He stomped one foot and thrust out his left hand sending a wave of rippling magic that struck the human center mass in the chest sending him flying with a piercing scream as the magic tore into his body. A mere moment later his right hand rose and gathered a ball of energy. The Dwarf's sword was in mid swing and in the moment before the blast would release he saw the Dwarf's eyes shine in the shadow before the magic's light banished the dark. The glowing eyes were revealed to be green and now wide with fear despite what had to be blinding light to the dwarf's eyes. A split second later the ball of magic arched though the air shattering the sword before contacting the Dwarf square in the chest and sent him flying as well as it burned through the leather armor and tore into flesh. The Dwarf hit a tree with a loud crack heard as bone broke.
Dezmin sighed as he stood thee a moment both arms still crackling with magic as he watched smoke rise from the Dwarf's broken body. It was overkill but he couldn't take chances. The Dwarf could see even better than Dezmin could in these conditions and Dwarves were naturally resistant to magic. Besides the dwarf was clearly the brains of the operation and better armed. The greater threat. After a few moments it was clear there was no life left in the Dwarf's body. Dezmin's arms dropped to his side. He walked into the brush a little ways and retrieved his pack. One compartment had come open and a photograph had fallen out. He sighed as he looked at the image before him. A human couple with a young elf sitting between them holding a human toddler affectionately. He smiled remembering when the photo had been taken. Dad complaining about how much it cost and mom saying it was worth it for the memories.
Looking up from the photo he saw the human trying to get to his feet and could hear him cursing in Stalkan. Dezmin briefly wondered at the families of these two men and what had lead them here before shaking it off. He stowed the picture slung his pack. It didn't matter. He'd defended himself and that was that. If the human lived he'd damn well never do this again. Dezmin just put those thoughts out of his mind as he continued down the path. Just a few more hours and he'd be sitting in front of a fire with a warm meal and a warm bed waiting for him and these events would just go on to become another all be it minor tale of his exploits. Something to entertain his lil brother with when he visited home. The tale of two Highwaymen and their Not so Easy Target.
Well hope you guys liked the pic and the story. ^^
