According to Luminous' biography, it says he has nyctophobia, which means he's scared of the dark. He always fears the darkness, even his own shadow used to frightened him. So there he is and Dr. Krankcase in the dark area, which of course frightens the evil overlord of light and made him cry as the mad scientist is comforting him.
