okay its finally finished

Here we have my completed functional 40k Chainaxe prop

the motor is a electric screwdriver attached to a 6 volt rechargeable remote control car battery pack. the base is a mix of cloroplast and pva foam

the trigger is a momentary switch in the axe handle, and the teeth are soft foam sewed onto a loop of velcro. the drive wheel is wrapped in the mated hook side velcro.

Its pretty sweet if I do say so myself
if you want to see how it runs video here

I like Warhammer 40K and this is pretty awesome for a first try, good job! As far as the design goes, sorry no offense, but it does seem a bit bulky for an ax. Perhaps a little framework would be in order? Consider making some of the design skinnier and compact. Overall, good work!

The axe goes to an Ork costume. Their stuff is usually oversized and crude.

A note to GayHare: It looks good. But if you can, you need to do something to make the haft look cruder. Maybe just a mix of duct tape and electric tape lumps. Or build a foam rectangle around it and add paint and rivets to match the grip.

Thanks Gener,
actually hefting it with the handle, as is, isnt the best. there  the head is a bit to heavy for the screwed down handle to keep straight I might be adding some reinforments to the shaft and to suport to the head.  it'll asl give me a good spot to nail down the power cables.  though having them free is kinda cool 'm worried about them snagging on something

PS...  how cool is it that when I searched Chainaxe in google images one of my earlier pics of the chain tests popped up in the first few results

actually  looking at edge profiles of chain axes from warhammer miniatures and art work this one is right in profile of astartes and imperial chain axes.  infact  mine has a tapered hull slanting towards a point directing the force of the swing down towards the edge and the chain.   most others use a wide slab hulled axe head with the chain comming straight out of a flat blocky face.  Heck even the skull I have on there isn't out of place  Gorechild the weapon of a chaos champion has a bigger skull in about the same place, and some standard axes have more Bulbous machinery.

most warhammer weapons are inherently inefficient but its part of the brutal appeal
