WHY is it that we in the Northeast USA -like NJ - NEVER get a total solar eclipse ?

I have never seen the phenomena that come with an imminent total eclipse - such as the Eclipse Wind and the bands of light and dark that sweep over the plain just before totality .

The path of totality is really narrow--you generally need to go to it, rather than have it come to you :)

That said, NJ got really close back on March 7, 1970. The path went over the ocean just off the coast of NJ. If you wanted to stay on land, it went over the southern part of the Delmarva Peninsula (around Chincoteague and Cape Charles, VA). A 5 or 6 hour drive from NJ, but I think it's worth it to see a total solar eclipse... I'm thinking of making a 10 hour drive to see the August 21, 2017 one.

I think I recall seeing it, on the back patio.
The patio has long since been covered by a back room with things.
