Wandering about, Square and I stopped at a well in an abandoned village to get a drink of water. Ignoring the mysterious symbol on the barrels, I took a drink, accidentally spilling some on Square. Unfortunately, it appeared that the water was contaminated, and the both of us transformed into dragon-like kaijus, right in the middle of the village square!
1 - Seems to be a major size-change upwards. I go by the "tiny" barrels. Spitting out the poison (like battery gunk) because it didn't taste right, is the body's first line of defense against poison.
2 - The two should have also regarded the strange structure in the distance. And that the town is deserted.
