I always love hearing about what people envision when they read the story. Did you see her as having multifaceted internal weapons? Perhaps to look like something out of Mechwarrior?
It's an interesting supposition, their perceived imbalance. But think about this: Jacent doesn't actually possess superhuman main strength. He's quite strong, sure, but every instance of him punching above his weight is due to telekinesis. Now consider Grendel. She's made not of flesh, but of various metals and other worked materials, so she's by default tougher than him, and her nature allows her to be faster as well. And remember, this thing can lift a car! So he has many very good reasons to fear this seemingly modest frame.
