Washed away with the rain,
All the stains that were made from blood
And the canvas is white...
No traces of blood
This coming Wednesday will be the last session of the Pathfinder campaign in which I play Varik, my rogue/fighter archer. I'll really miss playing him, but not necessarily because he was "fun".
Varik is an unfeeling psychopath who revels in death, pain, and blood - but he hides those desires under the guide of a calm, logical, and collected individual.
Control and order are all that matter to him; control of his environment, control over his enemies, control over his emotions. As time went on, it became harder and harder to maintain that control and to keep those urges in check, and he had to try harder than ever to made sure nothing happened to the ones he so desperately wanted to consider "friends".
Varik was interesting, if dangerous, to play every week. I make jokes about getting too in character when I roleplay, but it's true and the headspace of a tightly-wound psychopath made it very easy to keep a sad and somber mood long after nightly games were over. Like I said, it was very interesting... But the tone of the next character will certainly be a lot lighter. Still, I love this character and will be very sad to see him go. I found him complex and engaging, and hopefully the other players enjoyed him too.
