So normally both sides are like the bead sides, with the holes, however I have found a different way to melt the beads to get one side perfectly flat while still having a perler looking (bead) side as well. I like to have both because some people like one side over the other or even want both options, thus best most options available. ;) No special beads here, just a special way of melting.
