It's possible that the place he learned the spell in the first place stated multiple methods for getting the information. either kissing, or having sex would have been equally viable. I can imagine that would be so, as many instructional guides often give alternate means of accomplishing the same task. like cook books, they'll some times mention that if you don't have a particular ingredient, it suggest a different one that can also be used.

Now that you mentioned that... I can see that too. Chrollo's Skill Hunter. It's kind of similar but he just needed to learn about ability and then absorb it by touch (at least that's what i remember).

actually I think you are refering to negima because while there was the hunter cards, they didn't tell you that much info... in negima they didn't really get that much info... but still had some of the stuff like the power and the name of the person.
