I do not know if I am confusing 2 legends, but it either can be exorcised by giving it a name, whereupon it will joyfully fly off to heaven -or whether it clamps itself to the victim's back and makes the latter take it to a church. As the latter nears the church, it grows too heavy to bear and the poor wretch is either crushed to death or beaten to death by the vengeful myling.
There are several ways to exorcise a changeling and get the real child back. One involves boiling eggshells in the sight of the changeling. At least this method does not entail hurting the supposed changeling.
