Would it help if I said that I personally knew this guy? ;) Haven't seen Mike in 20 years, though, not since he was hired to be the then-new lead vocalist for Faith No More. Seeing him perform "Epic" on the MTV Music Awards show was kickass. :)
Yes, Mike was a friend of mine, and it was he who got me into The Art Of Noise. :)
What the hell is the music layer in the mix? I like that melody! :)

There's a ton of information swirling around in this mix. I decided to make this one a 7-layer cake. :) The melody is a slowed-down segment of a Jean-Jacques Perrey tune I don't know the name of. yotienpluche is a HUGE Perrey & Kingsley fan, and he rekindled my interest in vintage Moog music. There's another JJP sample in this one, with all the bleeps & bloops. And at last count, there's between 5 and 7 drum loops in this monster, one going backwards.
I was fortunate to find the studio acapella for "Epic"; I've been meaning to mix this one for ages now.

DOOOOD... this is uber-groovy, fraught with trippy elegance ;D Never ever imagined I'd wind up hearing this song in such a peculiarly dance-hall-based manner! Pretty doggone cool...
