Just to let you know, when you are fencing with a rapier, you are using 2 blades - the fencing blade that is about a meter long, and the rapier dagger which is about 30cm - 50cm. The shorter blade is to to provide additional blocking of the opponent's blade and when fighting gets crowded, able to sneak the blade into the side of the opponent. You never fight with the rapier blade alone, unless it is your only blade and you're desperate to defend yourself.
I've fought and won too many fencing and sabre matches in the 1980's to know this - '79-'81 NYC Champion and '80-'81 NYS Finalist. It's like talking with a Samurai Master and confusing a Katana with a Wakizashi. He'll take your head off for that mistake!
