Mikey took a deep breath, clutching hold of his blanket tightly. He frowned as ran a hand across his eyes; if he was going to do this he had to do it right. He licked one of his fingers and ran it underneath his eyes, smearing his spit slightly down his cheeks.
It would be better if he could have made himself cry for real before he left his room.
He was usually a natural at making himself cry, it was part of the charm of being the baby of the family; he could get anything out of his family with puppy-dog-eyes and a few crocodile tears.
It was going to take a bit more than that to get what he wanted this time though.
Mikey allowed himself a small smile before schooling his features back into his best ‘scared little brother’ face and knocking lightly on Donatello’s door.
A light groan came from behind the door, followed by the sleepy shuffling of feet.
“Mikey?” Donnie yawned as he cracked open the door, trying to keep the light from the main room from flooding into his bedroom. He groaned again as he noticed the clock on his desk. “It’s half past two in the morning. Why are you even awake?”
Mikey shuffled awkwardly, pulling his blanket closer to his chest. “I had a nightmare.”
Donnie blinked a few times as his tired mind took in his little brothers words. “You wanna sleep in my room? Mikey we’re fifteen.”
“Yeah, I guess I it was a stupid idea, huh?” He frowned, sniffing a few times before scrubbing at his eyes with the back of his hand. “I’ll…just go back to my room then.”
Donnie sighed, opening the door wider as he saw Mikey turn to walk back to his room. “Come on in.”
Mikey grinned, turning around and grabbing Donnie in a tight hug. “See? This is why you’re my favourite bro.”
“Just get into bed so we can both go back to sleep.” Donnie smiled, shaking his head at his brother’s antics.
Before long the two of them were curled up on Donnie’s bed under the covers, the door had to be left open a crack because Mikey usually slept with a nightlight, but the light wasn’t enough to distract Donnie from falling asleep.
Mikey cuddled up to his brother to rest his head on the older turtle’s plastron, and Donnie couldn’t help smiling down at his little brother; he really was cute when he was like this – not that he’d ever admit that to him.
Wrapping an arm protectively around Mikey, it didn’t take long for Donnie to fall asleep with a smile on his face.
Mikey waited till he could feel Donnie’s breathing even out before letting a wide grin spread across his face.
Step one complete.
He was determined to finally follow through his attempts at getting Donnie to like him the same way he liked Donnie. Surely it couldn’t be that hard to get the resident genius to at least entertain the idea of them being together, but then again Mikey had had a crush on Donnie for a long time now and his genius brother was still oblivious.
Mikey was sure he just needed to keep finding excuses to get closer to him for Donnie to get the message, hopefully he would even start feeling to same way back. He’d already found a way to get into bed with him.
Now he just had to find a way to sleep with him without having to fake having a nightmare first.
