Thinking back, I decided to revive two of my ancient, barely used characters. Remi the dolphin and Fridrich the weasel. Both are bisexual, and like each other a lot. Currently, they're 20 years old and living together.

While the two of them do find themselves with the company of others, they're pretty committed to each other at this point, to a romantic extent. Remi is learning German, Fridrich's native tongue, while Fridrich is working on his breath control and swimming, so they can go to aquatic hangouts together.

After two years of living together, they decided to just call each other partners. They even decided to make it official, wanting to go to city hall and get a legal civil union, since that would provide them with certain legal and economic benefits. Fridrich's family was not exactly for it, but didn't outright disapprove. There was no hesitation from Remi's family, as his was more liberally oriented.

The day they were all set to go to the town hall and make the request, they were met with protesters. They weren't there necessarily for them, but they were protesting gay rights in general. One of the protesters had noticed the papers in Remi's hands, and quickly got the others to block them out of the city hall.

They tried to get around, but soon were being pushed away and physically barred. With a nasty homophobic comment, Remi snapped. He slapped the protester who made the comment, and a group of them set to beating the two right in public. Law enforcement quickly broke up the quarrel, but not before the two had some scratches and bruises.

Their plans for a civil union were delayed, as they went to a hospital to tend to their wounds. Fridrich, scared from the experience, suggested they just not try again. But Remi, pissed that those protesters beat on him and his unofficial partner, said that they should go back, and be sure to do so during the next protest. He would not let this go until they were together.

Note: I know there are places where same sex couples can get married and be called married. Just assume where they are, a civil union is how they go about it.
