I've been playing for a looong time Hyrule Warriors so far... so I thought: Hey! Famine's always been looking for worthy opponents and challenges to prove himself! Why not allow him to sink into the world of Hyrule Warriors just as he faced Chase Young before! And so... This idea came to my mind!! In Hyrule, he takes on his real name Virgil and uses the Savage Gauntlets (As he called his armor's gauntlets). He also wears a long ragged scarf to cover part of his face... and YES! Famine also have pointed Hylian ears... not for being a Hylian, but because in natural state, he doesn't have rounded "humanoid" ears but pointy elvish ones.
Also I made a small story regarding the moment Virgil joins the party after "faking" a defeat at the hands of Link on the best interest of fighting a major evil.
Here's the story! PS: YES, in this story, Link speaks (briefly) and explains the reason why he doesn't speaks on games.
---------------
The Guardian of Legends
As the party decided to head for the Temple of the Sacred Sword, they moved swiftly in order to prevent any further advance from Cia and her forces. Having found several new allies during their spreading on the three different dimensons, the whole army moved on to the Temple of the Sacred Sword, where Zelda said they could find the powerful Master Sword, the sword of evil’s bane.
“I see that your Triforce has returned!” cheered Lana looking at both Zelda and Link. “Yes, mine and Link’s, too” agreed Zelda and Link nodded. “It’s not clear exactly how, but Cia’s powers should be greatly diminished!” Lana suggested full of confidence as she smiled “If we were to counterattack, we’ve got to do it now!” “Cia still holds the Triforce of Power” interrupted Impa walking closer “She won’t be overtaken so easily.” “No…” shook her head Zelda “We can win as long as we have the Master Sword.” she turned and looked at Link “I believe Link possesses the spirit necessary to wield it.” “But princess… the master sword is more than just a weapon, it’s a barrier” explained Impa arm crossed looking a bit nervous “It keeps a fragment of evil locked away! Once pulled, the spirit will be freed…” “The barriers surrounding the Temple of the Sacred Sword are made with a special type of magic” said Lana optimistically “Pulling the Master Sword won’t undo the barrier. Not entirely, anyway.” “But how can we be sure that Link is truly ready for this task?” asked Impa skeptically. “Because I believe in him” sentenced Zelda with a smile. “I-I believe in him too!” hurried too say Lana as both she and the princess looked at Link who flinched a bit. “Well Link… if you were looking for a chance to prove yourself this would be it” said Impa still thoughtful at the whole affair. “Then we make haste to the Temple of the Sacred Sword” smiled Zelda.
The group walked into the ruined temple surprised to see it like that. With caution they advanced to the doors only to find them closed.
“We need to activate the three sealed statues!” said Zelda “Let’s spread out and find them!”
The army spread looking at the statues on the different points of the ruins. For a moment the empty silence was only cut by the wind… but soon as they moved to the different points while searching, several troops of ghost soldiers appeared claiming no one would enter the temple. Link and Fi rushed their way attacking in search for the statues managing to find one on the South Square, but were soon surrounded by ghosts.
“Princess… we found one with fire and water motifs on the hands” communicated Fi. “Good! Darunia, that’s a statue of wave and flame! Use your power to activate it!” ordered Zelda. “O-Ok, I’ll try” nodded Darunia surprised for what he was being asked. “It will require the power of three of you to activate it!” continued the Princess “Link! You have to escort Darunia, Impa and Midna to the statue!”
Link nodded as he rushed his way to rendezvous with the three. He found the Goron chieftain near North square, right where another Statue was discovered.
“We found another!” informed Proxi as Link cleared the path. “That’s the statue of Twilight” said Zelda “Midna, use your powers on it!” “Sure! Got it!” answered the Twilight Princess as she rushed her way to the statue on North square.
Darunia managed to roll his way to south square as Link cleared the path for both him and Midna, though the ghost soldiers didn’t disappeared, and there were more and more by the second.
“I found another” announced Impa. “Impa, that’s the statue of Servitude, please awaken it”
Soon, they could feel the change on the ambient. Impa had activated the first statue and that improved the morale of the troops as they continued fighting the ghostly troops in order to allow Darunia and Midna to reach the statues they had to activate. But while they were on it, several summoner ghosts appeared increasing the number of troops.
“LINK! FI! LANA!” shouted Zelda “Take care of those summoners we’re getting overwhelmed!” “Right away Princess” nodded Lana. “As ordered” complemented Fi as Link dashed to the summoners attacking them with his sword causing damage to them much to his surprise.
The number of ghosts continued increasing but soon Fi, Lana and Link were defeating the summoners and Darunia reached the statue on the south square aided by Ruto.
“All done! It’s activated though it looks like I’ll have to stay here till is fully activated” announded the goron.
The Hylian troops continued the attack until Midna announced she had activated the final statue, but nothing happened.
“It looks like it’s gonna take some time for them to fully activate” said Impa as she stabbed some more ghost troops. “Wah! What?! There are Ghost soldiers INSIDE the temple!” yelled Lana as she rushed her way to the doors. “That’s unusual! Someone must be manipulating them!” said Zelda as she advanced to the Temple square “Link! Defeat their commander”
The soldier nodded as he rushed his way looking for his next target… but soon he heard Zelda commenting about an evil presence to what Proxi suggested that there might be an impostor. Link ran to where the fountain was and… Lana attacked him. But it was weird… since there were two of them! Lana was fighting Lana.
“Link! It’s an impostor!” shouted one Lana. “Don’t listen at her! She’s the impostor!” replied the other Lana.
Link stopped for a second but then focused and could sense the dark aura coming out of one of them, and so, he attacked the false Lana managing to defeat her together with the real one.
“Well done Link…” giggled the False Lana “Looks like you’re not easily tricked”
In a sudden movement, the false Lana disappeared and the doors of the Temple opened. Lana and Link ran to the temple ready to reach the Master Sword as Darunia, Impa and Midna fell back retreating momentarily due to the exhaustion of activating the statues. The remaining commanders of the army spread on the squares and Link focused on reaching the Master Sword followed by Zelda and Lana. But as they reached the Door of Time… it was closed and surrounded by enemy troops sent by Cia. The trio attacked with the few troops that followed them and managed to beat the foes getting access to the clearing where the legendary sword was sleeping.
“That’s it… the Master Sword” said Zelda as they walked inside the forest area “Link, you have to pull it out now” “Don’t worry about the barrier, it won’t fall entirely so everything should be fine” nodded Lana as she encouraged Link to pull the word.
Link nodded and walked to the sword standing in front of it. Slowly, he reached the hand to the hilt and gripped it pulling the sword that, for a few seconds, remained stuck… until it gave up and started to move allowing Link to wield it. Though as he was about to release it…
“Hold it there!” a voice called out from the forest outside and Link stopped flinching a bit but then resumed trying to pull the sword “I rather wouldn’t do that if I were you”
Link ignored the voice but as he was about to completely release the sword, a black blur rushed to him and smacked the soldier back to Lana and Zelda.
“I warned you…” said a lean guy wearing a black armor and graves as long as wearing a pair of black gauntlets with silvery claws. The black parts also had golden borders. He wore a scarf covering his mouth and trapping part of his long hair so it pasted to his back “It’s not so safe to release the Master Sword when not necessarily needed.” “Wait, we DO need it to defeat Cia!” argued Zelda looking at the guy and standing close to him, next to Link. “Yes! We know what it seals, but the barrier of the Temple will keep it sealed until we managed to defeat Cia!” completed Lana. “Hmm… So… are you telling me that this Cia is a treat to the world that needs of the Master Sword huh?” murmured the guy as he walked to the sword stabbing it completely again not even touching it “Hey greeny, your name is Link, isn’t it?”
Link walked to him and nodded.
“Not the talkative type huh?” asked the guy with a chuckle. “Words aren’t necessary in a battle” argued Link being honest in his answer before grabbing his sword ready to challenge the guy if needed. “You don’t know who I am, yet you dare to ready your sword against me?” asked the guy amused as he summoned a small replica of several swords. The Master Sword, the Picori Blade, the Four Sword, the Great Fairy Sword… also, a set of pendants and medallions appeared in his hands “I have watched all these events… I’ve seen it all just as Lana and Cia did in their temple” then a Majora’s Mask appeared “Also I’ve witnessed all the possible events from several catastrophes… for example when someone used this mask and the moon nearly destroyed the land of Termina…” “W-what are you talking?” asked Lana surprised “How do you… wait… you DID know of Cia and myself?” “Of course I knew” nodded the guy “Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Virgil, I’m the guardian of Legends, or so is the title I’ve been granted here” with an educated and polite bow, Virgil introduced himself “But if you really want to wield the Master Sword, I guess a test is at hand. Go on, release the Master Sword and fight me.” “W-what?! Fight you? But… Look we have no time for that!” argued Zelda, but Virgil remained serious about the proposal. “Fine” nodded Link as he walked passing by Virgil and noticing the wild look in his eyes. Similar to his and several other warriors he have met. With a grip of both hands, the soldier pulled out the sword that shone golden. “Get ready boy… I won’t be easy on you!”
Virgil ran to Link not even giving him time to react and made a double slash against him. Link defended with the Master Sword and blocked the attacks, but a sudden kick made him slide back leaving the marks of his boots on the ground. With another burst of speed, the Guardian of Legends reached Link doing a Slash Cyclone that link countered using his own spin attack much to Zelda and Lana’s surprise. Both warriors continued the attacks. Link slashed with the sword while Virgil landed slashes with the claws of his gauntlets breaking from time to time Link’s defenses. But the hero managed to do the same with Virgil making him trip back a couple of times while attacking fiercely with the Master Sword.
“Not bad kid… not bad” smiled unseen Vigil under the scarf as he ran to Link and again repeated his double slash and kicked at the hero pushing him a bit back before doing an jumping uppercut and a ground pound that left Link panting after being able to block it. “Y-You’re… too strong!” gasped Link. But then he ran to Virgil slashing with the sword several times before doing a spin attack that pushed the Guardian back. “I have to” said Virgil recovering from the attack and standing on his ground once more.
Again, Link and Virgil ran to the other clashing again and again, though Virgil seemed to be lowering the intensity of the attacks little by little. Link took the chance and landed several blows impacting on Virgil’s gauntlets making the steel vibrate.
“Good moves” admitted Virgil blocking a thrust attack and spinning to a side kicking Link on the ribs pushing him away “But you have to improve and take away the overconfidence to those movements of yours.”
Link didn’t answered to the taunt; as he had said before, words weren’t necessary on a battle. Yet, Virgil again increased the speed and intensity attacking from both sides at an incredible speed! Link blocked with the shield most of the attacks but received others that opened his defense.
“You’re all mine!” roared Virgil as he kicked Link doing a flip upwards and summoning a circle that allowed him to stand on midair taking impulse and rush his way down to Link.
Link saw it coming and dodged fast as Virgil slashed the ground and lifted a cloud of dust. It was the hero’s turn and he attacked swiftly and precisely slashing several areas where Virgil wasn’t defending. On the other end of the sword, Virgil, taking advantage of the dust pretended to be hit but dodged every single attack. He had recognized in Link the spirit of the Hero of Legends. When the dust faded, Virgil was kneeled on the ground panting and Link holding the Master Sword ready to deliver a finishing blow.
“Well… it seems like you are worth of wielding it” smiled the Guardian as he stood up like if nothing had happened. “Fine… but I won’t be responsible for what happens if you take it away from here.”
Virgil disappeared and as Link was returning to Zelda and Lana, the soldiers informed them Wizzro had appeared on the West square and was crushing their forces.
--- o ---
As link and the others fought and defeated Wizzro, Virgil was looking at them from the top of the near by building. It had been an amazing battle actually and he had a little bit of fun fighting Link, though those impacts of the Master Sword hurt quite a bit since he was darkness besides light… Nevertheless, he knew they’d need as much help as possible in the task up ahead.
“Shall I? Din? Nayru? Farore? Interfere with this story?” asked Virgil with a slight grin as he pulled down the scarf around his face “I say it’s worth the waste of time”
With a chuckle Virgil looked at Wizzro fading away and Zelda cheering Link for his victory and the retrieval of the Master Sword. The Guardian put on the scarf again and jumped from his place landing in front of Zelda, next to Link.
“Well, you did quite an amazing job there Princesses, Heroes, and Soldiers…” “What do you want Guardian of Legends?” asked Lana looking at Virgil, quite with harsh feelings for him showing up. “Ohh… don’t keep harsh feelings on me Lana” smiled Virgil and then he addressed to Zelda “Princess, I recognize yours as a fair cause… allow me to help you. My Savage Gauntlets are at your side.” “Thanks, having more allies will come in handy” nodded Zelda and the army got ready to depart.
Wizzro had mentioned that Cia was at the Temple of Souls, so that was the place they were going to go. Virgil remained in his place until the troops began advancing and Link, Zelda, Lana and the others marched too.
“It’s going to be an amazingly fun time from now on” smiled Virgil. “Hey Virgil what are you waiting for? Let’s go!” shouted Lana as she turned around and saw Virgil standing idle there. “Right… I’m coming” said Virgil walking to Lana and the others, ready to have a good and fun time fighting the forces of Evil.
