Technically speaking the one thing a kitsune cant hide is there tails [in some legends ears either] that said. *sticks the creative license seal of approval on the work* there we go, all better.

I'd imagine a kKitsune would wear their tails all woven up into one big, flufftail if they aren't trying to make public appearances or a statement. Kinda like how people with long hair, wear their hair up in ponytails, buns, or just a makeshift updo if they're gonna be relaxing at home.
It's how my character sometimes does for instance; two tails woven around one another like a french braid.

I did a mini-fanfic where the kappas and the kitsunes ganged up to ambush the Sage and draw his heart from his body.
The Matriarch, Queen of the Witches, got wind of this and got off the Walking Throne to do war with the kitsunes and the kappas. The result was the Battle of the Spilling of the Fluids.
The kappas got the water in the depression in their heads spilled. The kitsunes lost their power to assume human form, when the Matriarch found the water that had laid undisturbed in a human skull and broke the skull !
Both peoples had to pay fealty and homage to the Matriarch.
Later,Wendy found she had been assassinated and impersonated by Glumullion. Vanquishing him bestowed the Mantle on Wendy.
