I drew this a while back for Valentine's Day 2004. I was feeling pretty low in that time of my life so I just started drawing. This is what I came up with.
This comic, despite the sad tale it tells, eventually started me doing a comic strip a year later, starting in about spring of 2005. This is UHV #0; it does not really have much to do with the bulk of the UHV story line, but more giving the readers a base on where I am coming from.
When I first posted it to my personal website, I called it "Valentine's Pre-emptive Strike!" I want to get the first blow in that year rather than wait... Valentine's are nothing special for me.
The boxes from left to right represent my 3 facets to my life. My real life, my on-line/role play life, and my fantasy. The three lasses are from left to right: Sherri, Hunni, and Artica.
Sherri is a bunny I have known for the better part of a decade now, and we are ever the closest of friends. At one point, if I could, I would have asked her to marry me, but we both agreed some time ago, it would never work. Still, I kept up hope for quiet some time. Right now, she tentatively has a man in her life, and I am hoping that it works out for them as he too is a very good friend of mine. Better him than someone who might not bring her happiness.
At the time Hunni, or rather the role-playing force behind Hunni, was off at nursing school. On top of that, add in being a single parent, a security guard, and the superintendent of the apartment building she lived in (owned by Mom no less). She is so tired she wouldn't notice me if I was naked and on fire, as that would require her to be awake enough to open her eyes. So she is not putting me down so much as she's just too damn worn out to even think that way right now.
And finally, we have the lovely and chilly Artica ( Shawntae Howard). It's no surprise that I have had a thing for Artica since the mid 90s when I first started to really get involved with the Furry Fandom. For nearly a decade I have dreamt of her, and in my sleep I would stare longingly at her flowing white fur. Artica, for those of you who dont know, is a comic book character form my favourite comic, The Extinctioners, by Shawntae Howard, aka Tamar, the Ebony Leopard. He's not sure who's the actually FIRST Artica Fan, myself or Max the Black Rabbit, but I am definitely in the forefront.
But to the point... This lovely, frosty vixen has a following of nearly 1000 fans, if not more already. At the time, I was feeling like one in the back of the room as one after another, I would see other people showing off stories and images of them and her being married or her being knocked up or.. what have you. Its funny how you can look at a fictional character and be so completely swept away by the emotion deep with in your self, stirred up and brought to the surface by the mere thought of her. I dont want to say I had a fanboy reaction to the lovely Artica, but I was certainly captivated by her to the point that I would have done anything for her just to make her happy.
. . .
Fast forward now to the Summer of 2006. Its amazing how a few years can go by and how much can change in this short time, yet not change. Sherri and I are still friends, I still love her to death and I hope we will know each other and stay this close until we go to the great beyond. Hunni now stars in a web comic along side yours truly (http://dtbc.comicgen.com) drawn by Hunnis RL counter part and myself, but Hunnis real life self does admit to still being tired and exhausted (Now and nurse, and a single dad... and still taking care of Moms apartment.) And as for Artica? She is now starring in her own spin off comic called Arctic Blue (http://www.extinctioners.com) I still draw her, though I have not done as much as I once did...
AND! Right now I have met a wonderful young lady on line that I talk to regularly. We are both considering ourselves single for now, but who know..? Maybe someday we might just... Well, I can leave that to your imagination.
