When you're a starship engineer, you can expect that your job will involve some strange stuff happening to the engines. With a physics-breaking FTL drive (something to let the ship travel faster than light, which physics (according to Albert Einstein) does not allow), some of those things can get downright bizarre. Like little hungry fuzzballs which grow and reproduce when they eat showing up in your FTL drive when you're not even in the Star Trek universe (as you can tell by the lack of a Starfleet uniform).
Or (if you're on Inkbunny) included with this image. Basically, Animatians are toons for a sci fi universe, with an effort to make them fit a little bit better with the guidelines of science fiction.
For a little backstory on Sheila herself...
Sheila grew up on the Asteroid Belt of System 4U-5513. The joke name (translate from L33t) is said to have come from some of the geekier animatians who first found that there were some valuable resources from the asteroids. Of course, this is combined with the inherent deadliness of an asteroid environment to create its name.
Sheila herself grew up in a family of miners living on one of the asteroids. Her family would often work on maintaining the equipment and at times, getting one's hands dirty and digging personally. However, Sheila seemed to have her mind on travel, and as such, her engineering specialty came to be transportation, both on the ground and eventually through the stars. She eventually applied for an education out of the 4U-5513 Asteroid Belt and worked towards becoming a good enough engineer that she might be able to find work on a space vessel.
Unfortunately, this left her less effective in many other fields. At least she found work with a crew though (Which, in an RP, could be the same crew you're on). Even if it was because she was the best they could get at her price.
