im working on a 40k project and wondered which color should I use?

what looks better the red or blue... and which would be more fitting for a tech priest

Tech priests generally are robed in red with white or yellow trim

I know red is for mars the home of the mechanicum but thats so much red,  and my servo skull already has a red mark

The Orders on Mars may use a lot of red, but they are not the only big wigs of the Mechanicum. An Order that has spent a couple of millennia on Terra might use blue. Not because there is anything blue left on Terra but in memory of the glorious past.

hmmm  I hadn't even thought of the blue being a reflection of ancient Terra...  thats good.  At most Id thought of a tech priest who might have been serving the order on or about the worlds of Ultimar.   Using the blue maybe to show his time serving the omnisiah among the Ultramarines...

heck   maybe I should skip the blue and red....  the final piece that the skull will be set in is going to be rather spikey....  4 points not the full 8 but maybe I should go dark mechanicum,  what colors would a chaos tech priest use

Slaanesh: clashing and tasteless pastels (yuck)
Nurgle: all the colors of rot, corrosion and general ickiness browns, greys and sickly greens. (double yuck)
Khorne: All the reds from rust to blood, black and of course Skull White by the gallon (he's just not that creative)
Tzeentch: now we're talking, his(?) symbol is blue and gold. Here's a 40K wiki page. http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Tzeentch

LOL  the ones Id use still freaking fit for both the empire or chaos....  lol  there colors can be interchanged  Korn and blood angels both love there reds

Gold and blue  thats Tzeentch and Ultramarines...

I think thats why I like the orks...  anything can look orky if you stick enough pointy bits on it...  though they also have there thing with red

I'll admit Of all the chaos gods  the most personable seems to be Nurgle... in all the books Ive read that featured him,  he seems rather freindly and jovial....  completly disgusting of course  and just as likely to kill you as the others of course but he'll do it with a smile.

A freind wants me to use green  since thats his color  but I'm planning to use Green LEDs for the power glows so that made him happy.

I tried a mix of blue and red but on the white skull it looked a bit to Murican if you know know what mean.

Nurgle thinks of himself as a loving parent. But his children are all zombies. My tribute to the 40K artists is that their depictions of Chaos, especially Nurgle, make me slightly nauseous when I look too close at the details.
The yellow shades of the Imperial Fists are the only ones I can think of for Nurgle. Mix with green for mold.
Since they all started as miniatures it's no surprise there is a limited palette. Mostly primaries and secondaries because they are easy to find on the board and equally easy to find in a hobby store.

Ohhh  I wonder...  are there any dark mechanicus who worship the Necrons,   The machine god they worship, or have trapped in mars is a Ctan like the ones that created the necrons.  With the Necrons tech I could see some priests that would love to tinker with them

Nothing canon. But don't let that stop you. Necron and Mechanicus  go together like peanut butter and chocolate. Egyptian motif look handles Necron details. If I saw a Tech Priest wielding an ankh-looking toy, I'd be making tracks for the exit screaming for the Space Marines... even if I was a Space Marine. Necrons are creepy and partly unkillable.

I might have to do a secondary skull in black

just for that...  Maybe a Flayed one skull on a staff,  though that might be gruisome if I found a way to similate the draped on skin

though itll be a simpler build then a servo skull

See if this helps. http://halloweenalliance.com/decorations/make-a-decayi... Search 'mummy head props' there were others, some ready-made others DIY. I didn't look too close but none of them seemed to start with "acquire skull from suitable victim"...

having taken a closer look at necrons head shape I might be better off constructing the necron face plate myself since my collection of prop skulls don't fit with the angles needed  I will use the test skull I have as the base to build it off though

also  damn you bronies   I didnt need to see a necron pony
