Automation Control
Goal:  make a rondo of format A(B1)ACA(B2)A, each section being 1 minute long for a total of 7 minutes, in 5 minutes or less, in fruity loops.

Plan:  each section should be 30 bars to get to 1 minute (once you adjust bpm to 120).  Scale will be lydian, section keys:  A=C, B1=E, B2=C, C=B.  I'm making an interpretation of wikipedia data, so it may not actually be a rondo.  Target tone will be chiptune, will utilize four instruments.  Should require minimal effects and mixing.

0:00 started new project, set up timer
0:00-0:17 set bpm to 120, designated patterns
0:17-1:23 pick one instrument and use riff generator on it in each pattern for 30 bars, then snap to the right key/scale with 'alternate' selected.  exception:  B1 and B2 should be the same, just snapped to different keys
1:23-2:22 set patterns in order in playlist
2:22-3:06 set instruments (chip32, randomized settings)
3:06-4:54 for two other instruments, put a generated riff at each pattern like above, but one of the instruments should be used with snap 'above' on each pattern and the other 'under' on each pattern.  exception:  B1 and B2 should be the same riffs, just snapped to different keys
4:54-5:48 pick one of those two riffs for each pattern out of that previous step and apply claw machine function for '2 beats' and '1/2', stretching to compensate
5:48-7:32 for the last instrument of each pattern, generate a riff (B1 and B2 get the same riff), use the flip function to flip the score vertically, then use limiter to apply the correct key
7:32-7:52 watch mixer briefly while playing part of the song to make sure the levels are okay
7:52-8:22 there's only a few transitions that need to be checked, so play them back briefly using the playlist to skip to the right points.  i got kinda lucky and only found 1 problem transition, with a second that could be better.
8:22-9:18 add gross beat to the master mix, set automation control for the mute switch on it, then set it in the playlist to only activate for about half a measure before and after the bad transition
9:18-9:26 pick something jagged or scribbly from the chaos settings in gross beat (it's chiptune, so it won't sound too noticeable)
9:26-9:54 chances are that the ending is gonna sound abrupt because of the repetition and likely lack of sustain or much of anything interesting, so set an automation control for the master volume, copy the initial value of for it in the playlist and past that as a point starting 3 measures before the end (unless you want a continual increase or decrease in volume), then set the end point for mute to make it fade out

Result:  didn't meet goal, but it took less than 10 minutes so I guess I'm satisfied.  The procedure could be a little more efficient and you could also skip several of the steps, but I decided to not post this song in a worse state than it's in.

I should also mention that this is the third version of this time trial - not because the steps failed at some point or I was trying to get better times, but because I originally had a longer song and I was gradually shortening it until it wasn't terribly boring to me.
