Hansel Taussig, like Friedrich, is plucked from the Hitlerjunged and put straight into the SS front line troops to defend Germany from the encroaching Allies, and he looks rather comical with his one size too big helmet and heavy clips for his MP28 strapped to his torso. Not to mention confused and uncertain. At only seventeen and having never tasted battle beyond operating anti-aircraft guns, Hansel is eager to do his father, Karl Taussig (who serves as the lieutenant of Arnold Messler half a world away in occupied Greece), proud, but deep down believes he lacks the courage to truly be a soldier.
