I read a German horror play about a girl named Claire Zachanassian who got a terrific revenge on the men who slandered her and made her an outcast. And on the town which made her a pariah. VISIT OF THE OLD WOMAN. It was for my German class.
She married rich men, and used her wealth to see to it that not even local trains stopped at the town anymore. She had her henchmen blind and castrate the men who slandered her. And she returned in triumph to the town she ruined -to make an offer. She'd restore the town to its former status - IF they publically put to death her former lover -and now mayor - who engineered her ruin. The execution- without trial or appeal- would be in the town square.
