Boys and Mud

Came up with this lil idea a few nights ago and pretty happy with how it turned out.

The Sun showed low in the sky today on Kipos. It was a quite world lacking the hustle and bustle of many worlds. Kipos was an Agro world that farmed many things that stations or remote facilities simply couldn't on site. It also had vast nature preserves and biofirms. Jay grinned as he walked down the path back home hands and feet covered in mud from spending most of the afternoon out by the creek playing either in it or climbing about the trees near it. Dire trotted alongside Jay as they made their way down the path. The dog was a modified version of the Dire-Wolf with just the right dog genes mixed in to make him man's best friend instead of apex predator. Dire occasionally stopped to scratch around his shoulders at the drying mud from when Jay last hugged him. While the dog loved his master he didn't much care for the mud. Dire's ears twitched as Jay hummed and he heard the constant familiar sound of crinkles and squishing beneath the overalls. Dire's sensitive nose had long since become accustomed to any scents humans might dislike. Jay smiled down at his bucket as they crossed the front porch just as Jay's mom stepped out into the doorway.

"Look Mommy! Me and Dire caught a frog! Can we keep it?" Jay asked holding up his bucket as the Frog in it popped up and his mom took in the sight of the Muddy boy and only mildly muddy dog.

"Tell you what sweetie. Why don't you leave Mr. Frog out here where he can get comfy and come on in so you can have a bath. Phew and a change." She told him with a smile and waved her hand as the smell of a ripe diaper hit her. Dire whined at the mention of Bath.

"Dire mommy meant for me not you." Jay giggled as he set the bucket down. "Bubbly bath?"

"Alright. Oh and wipe your feet off out here first. Dire you head out back so daddy can hose you off a bit." Mommy told the two. Dire whined again. "Go on Mister."

With that the two did as they were told. Jay wiped off his feet and scampered on inside to get changed and have his bath as Dire trotted around the back of the house where Daddy saw him and shook his head and hosed the dog off receiving a soaking himself as the dog shook itself dry. Before either knew it though they were both clean in and dry again. A nice end to a nice day.
