Duel Monster Saviors
Ch. 7 – The Longest Week Possible
Written by TheAmariaShadow

It’s been almost a few days since Dash and Mikey’s duel. The snow had finally passed and classes resumed as normal. …Although, Dash’s good personality was short-lived and he returned to the pompous brat we all knew. Although, for me, things were going to get much worse…

I frowned as I sat down at my seat in the science classroom, watching as Mikey, Crystal, and Jessie sat down next to me. “So, what are we supposed to be doing today, guys?”, I asked, yawning slightly. “I don’t know. The teacher isn’t here yet.”, Mikey replied. I frowned as I laid my head down and said, “This is boring. What kind of Duel Academy has a CHEMISTRY CLASS?!” “This one does.”, a voice said behind us. Jessie looked behind us and smiled when she saw her brother sitting down behind us. “Ben? What are you doing here? Doesn’t the Ra Yellow dorm have a science class?”, Crystal asked. Ben shook his head and said, “Not at all. Since the Yellow Dorm and the Red Dorm is rather close, most of my classes are in this building.”

Mikey widened his eyes in surprise on that. Then he noticed a bunch of books sitting next to the young feline and asked, “Exactly how many classes are you taking anyway?” “Ten in total. I am already working on the exam for my graduation to Obelisk Blue.”, Ben stated, writing in one of the books. “ALREADY?! But the semester just started!”, Crystal stated. “True. Oh look, here’s the teacher.”, Ben stated, noticing a female walk in. “Hello, everyone. For a few of you, this might be the first time you’ve had this class, so I shall introduce myself again. My name is Tea Gardner-Muto. You may call me Ms. Tea or Mrs. Muto if any of you become a problem. Isn’t that right, Dash?”, Tea said, looking over in the Obelisk Blue section at the young male. He scoffed as he looked away from her, getting a small giggle from her. “Anyway, today we shall be making an energy elixir. This elixir is similar to the one created by Royal Advisor Joshua Turner of the Dimensional Protection Unit himself. This elixir is used when in need of an extra boost of energy when you are feeling drained.”

The entire class murmured softly when Tea said that. “So, do we have any volunteers?”, she asked, placing a few beakers on her desk. A few hands went up, especially Mikey, Jessie, and Crystal’s. However, they were all overlooked when the sound of snores was heard from Onyx. Tea frowned and said, “Mr. Sairenji, thank you for volunteering for the class.” Ben’s eyes widened when Tea said that. “Uh, Ms. Tea, are you sure that’s a wise decision? I don’t think Onyx would be a good volunteer.”, he stated. She tapped her foot slightly as she walked over to Onyx and tapped his shoulder slightly. “Time to wake up, Onyx. Wake up.”, she said softly. I yawned loudly as I stretched my arms to the sky. I looked over at Mikey and asked, “Is the class over already, Mikey?”
He shook his head furiously as he pointed behind me. I looked and saw Tea staring at me with a cold grin. I stood to attention and said, “Sorry, ma’am!” Tea shook her head and said, “Well then, now that I have your attention, please show the class the proper way to make the energy elixir, if you please. All the necessary ingredients and equipment is sitting on my desk. Please follow the instructions on the desk EXACTLY as it says.” I nodded as I walked up to the front of the class, bumping a knee into the desk by accident. “Oh, sweet Amaria, OW!”, I exclaimed, putting a hand to my hurting knee. The class giggled as they saw me squirm in pain. Crystal only hid her face in embarrassment from what was happening. I finally walked around Tea’s desk and picked up the instructions. A few strands of my hair stood up when I saw all the fractions on it.

“Add one-fourth cup of Celestian Sea Salt, 2 pints of Diamond Tree Frog oil? Two-thirds of rust? WHAT?”, I muttered softly to myself, completely lost on what I was reading. “We’re waiting, Onyx. I already started with one ingredient: the trilucid vinegar. Just be careful: that vinegar is highly combustible.”, Tea said, watching me with the rest of class. I gulped softly, and then picked up the cup of rust. I then picked up a measuring spoon and said, “I guess this is two-thirds?” I scooped some rust out then dumped it into the mixture, only to see it turn a bright green.  It whistled loudly as a green cloud appeared from the beaker. “Uh, Ms. Tea? Is that supposed to happen?”, I asked with a worried tone. “No, no it’s not!”, Tea said. “Oh. Well then, RUN!”, I exclaimed as the beaker began to shake violently.

Immediately, the entire class ran out of the building, leaving the classroom empty. Within a few minutes, the classroom went up with a loud bang, shattering windows, doors, and extra rooms in the process. I groaned as that happened, but then I noticed that the damage even reached the Ra Yellow dorm, destroying most of the rooms in the building as well…

“Oh man, this is bad.”, Mikey said, standing right behind me. “I can’t believe I blew up the building. Not just the Red building, but the Yellow building as well!”, I exclaimed. “Well, that’s what happens when you’re not paying attention, brother.”, Crystal said. Tea sighed and said, “It was just an accident, Onyx. At least no one was hurt. But, I am afraid I will have to report this to the Chancellor. Until then, I want all of you to stay out of the Ra Yellow and Slifer Red buildings until further notice. Now, if you will excuse me.” Tea turned from her class and walked off in the direction to the Chancellor Mansion, leaving us all behind. Dash laughed loudly as he looked over at me and said, “Nice one, Slifer slacker! Even I wouldn’t have messed up that bad!”

“Leave him alone, Dash! It was an accident!”, Crystal said, patting her brother’s back gently. Dash smirked and said, “I bet he’ll get expelled for this. Or worse!” I looked up at him and said, “Worse?! What could be worse than being expelled?” He pointed over to the Chancellor Mansion in the middle of the lake and said, “Take a look over there. Do you see what’s over there?” I looked over and frowned as I saw that his finger wasn’t pointing at the Mansion, but at a little car that was parked next to it. “It’s just a little car. What’s so important about it?”, I asked. “That car is Herbie, a vehicle owned by the Superintendent of this academy! Even though the guy in charge is in a coma, that vehicle is run by people who oversee this place in his absence! Put two and two together, idiot!”, Dash said.

My eyes widened when he said that. “One of the head honchos of the DPU is HERE?! But why?!”, I exclaimed. Ben walked up behind me and said, “You’re about to find out. Herbie’s heading straight over here.”

Ben was right: the little car was indeed moving away from the Chancellor Mansion extremely fast and heading in our direction. All of us stood out of the way as Herbie came to a stop in front of us. I saw Yugi, Kaiba, Mokuba, Tea, and one other person step out of the car as they looked at the damage…

Yugi whistled softly as he said, “Oooh, this isn’t a pretty sight. And you say it was a chemical explosion that caused it, Tea?” Tea nodded and said, “Yes, but it was an accident.” “Accident!? Look at this place! I’m surprised both buildings didn’t come crashing down!”, Mokuba said. “Mokuba’s right, Yugi. It is lucky that nobody was hurt.”, Kaiba said. He then turned around and said, “Who did this? Come on, step forward.” Everyone went silent when he said that, but I sighed as I stepped forward and said, “It was me.” “Sairenji! I should’ve known. You’ve been nothing but trouble ever since the entrance exams!”, Mokuba said with a deep frown. “But it was an accident! I swear!”, I stated with a worried tone.

“Simple excuses! Chancellor, I think this is more than enough reason to expel this boy from here.”, Mokuba said. “That is not your call, Headmaster Kaiba. It is mine.”, Yugi said. He turned to me and was just about to say something when the strange person placed a gray hand on Yugi’s shoulder. “Allow me, Yugi.”, the person said. I looked behind Yugi and his eyes widened even more when I saw a familiar inversed raccoon standing behind him. “U-Uncle Nori?! What are you doing here?!”, I exclaimed. Nori walked over to me and said, “You forget, I am the DPU President’s secretary. I was here getting the recent reports of the Academy when Mrs. Muto came and told us the news. Now, Onyx, I’ll ask this once and only once: was this just an accident?”

I nodded furiously when he asked me that. With a clack of his heels, he turned to Yugi and said, “He says it is an accident. I believe him.” Yugi crossed his arms and frowned softly. Mokuba looked at Yugi and said, “Chancellor, you can’t be seriously thinking of letting him get away with this!?” “Quiet, Mokuba. Or it’ll be you without a job.”, Yugi said. Mokuba went quiet when Yugi said that. Yugi looked at Nori and said, “Alright then, he’ll be forgiven this time. How fast do you think we can get repairs made on the dorms?” Nori snapped his fingers as a holoscreen appeared in front of him. He looked at the damage and calculated exactly how long everything would take and said, “No more than a week. I can get our fastest workers out here to work on the repairs.”

“Excellent. In the meantime, this class is cancelled for now. Also, since the Ra Yellow dorm and the Slifer Red dorm is off-limits, I will be pairing each student with a another student in the other two dorms, effective immediately.”, Yugi said. “Wait…you mean the Yellows and the Reds have to share dorm rooms with the Blues and Purples?!”, Dash exclaimed from the crowd. “Exactly, Mr. Anderson.”, Yugi said, using the same holoscreen to set up rooming arrangements for each student. I sighed softly as I turned back to the others and said, “Well, that wasn’t so bad, I guess. Just one week of sharing a room with an Obelisk or an Exodia.” Crystal sighed and said, “Yeah, but you got lucky this time. You got to be more careful!” “I know, I know.”, I replied.

“Alright, students! Let me have your attention!”, Yugi said. Each of us turned to him as the holoscreen disappeared in front of him. “I just sent each of you your rooming setup. As of now, you will be reporting to those dorm rooms until the repairs to the Ra and Slifer dorms are made! That is all.”, he stated. I watched as him and the others hopped back into Herbie and drove off, leaving us all behind. I heard my PDA go off as soon as he was out of sight. I looked at mine and saw it show a room in the Obelisk Blue dorm. “Room 605, huh? Looks like I am bunking with an Obelisk, guys. What about you?”, I asked. Crystal looked at her PDA and said, “Not me. I got Room 302 in the Exodia Purple dorm. Wait…that’s Robin’s room!” “I got 302 as well!”, Jessie said with a grin. Crystal smiled and said, “Looks like we’re rooming with Robin for a while then, Jessie.”

The two girls giggled as they walked off, leaving me with Mikey. “What about you, Mikey?”, I asked. “I got 714. Does anyone here have room 714 in the Obelisk Blue dorm!?”, Mikey said out loud. “That’s me! Right here! I got 714!”, a voice shouted out. We looked directly in front of us as a young panda boy walked out from the crowd, out of breath as he said, “I’m in room 714. I’m Ranko Hibiki, a Slifer Red. What’s your name?”, Ranko asked. “Mikey Redheart, nice to meet you. Shall we go?”, Mikey said. Ranko nodded as the two walked away from me. I sighed as I walked alone to the Obelisk Blue dorm by myself.

A few moments had passed, and I finally made it to the Blue Dorm. I was still surprised on how big the entire area was; it almost looked like a castle than an actual dorm! I walked into the building, immediately getting dirty looks from the other Obelisk Blues that was in the main part of the building. I turned away from them and headed to my room…

“605….605….ah, here it is.”, I said, placing a hand on the bronze doorknob. I turned it and frowned. “Odd, it’s open.”, I said, peeking inside. “Hello? Someone in here?”, I asked calmly. “Onyx? You’re in this room too?”, a familiar voice said. I opened the door wide to see Ben sitting at a large desk at the far side of the room, working on some homework. “Ben! Thank goodness. For a minute, I thought I’d be in this room by myself.”, I said, closing the door behind me. “Not quite, Onyx. I took the liberty of looking around when I got here. Seems like someone else lives in this room.”, Ben stated, not looking up from his work. ‘Someone already lives in this room? Who?’, I thought to myself, hearing the door open behind me. I turned and came face to face with the one person I wasn’t expecting: Dash.

“YOU! What are you doing in my room?!”, Dash exclaimed. He noticed Ben sitting at the desk on the far side of the room and said, “Oh no. No no no! You two can’t possibly have been put into my room, have you?!” I looked up at the ceiling to avoid that question, but then I immediately got tackled to the floor by Dash. “Darn it, Sairenji! Look what you have done!”, Dash exclaimed, punching me in the stomach. I coughed roughly as I pushed him off me. “Knock it off, Dash! It’s not a big deal! It’s only a week!”, I exclaimed, wheezing slightly. “A week? WITH YOU?! Kill me now!”, Dash said, hiding his face in anger. He then looked at me and said, “You got to go. NOW.” He grabbed me by the shirt and began dragging me to the door. “Stop it, Dash! I got nowhere else to go!”, I said, snatching out of his grip. “Not my problem! Get out!”, Dash said, opening the door wide.

“ENOUGH! BOTH OF YOU!”, Ben stated, standing up from his chair. We both looked at him as he stared at us with a cold frown. “Dash, Chancellor Yugi put him in this room. So, like it or not, this is where he stays. Now, both of you be quiet! I am trying to study!”, he said loudly. Dash snorted as he closed the door and said, “Fine. Don’t expect me to like it though.” I sighed softly, then looked over at Ben and said, “Thanks for that.” Ben shook his head and said, “No problem. Just keep quiet.” I nodded as he sat back down in his chair and continued to work. I sat down in a recliner and sighed softly, only to get a soft growl from Dash as he pushed me out of the chair. “Excuse me, this is MY chair.”, he said, taking off his blue overcoat and tossing it onto the ground. He kicked off his shows and set the recliner into the back position, sighing softly. I frowned as I rubbed my sore cheek as I walked over to where Ben was to see what he was doing. I was surprised when I noticed he was studying for the graduation exam.

“Don’t you think it’s a bit early to think about graduating to another dorm, Ben? It’s only been two months since the semester started!”, I stated. Ben shook his head and said, “Not at all. It’s always a good thing to aim high.” My eyes widened in surprise as I nodded in agreement. Dash laughed as he said, “Yeah right! You, graduating to become an Obelisk Blue? That’ll be the day!” Ben smirked and said, “It’s definitely a possibility. After all, my grades are high enough to actually be promoted to Exodia Purple any day now.” Dash scoffed and said, “We’ll see.” I put a hand to my stomach as I heard it growl. “Geez, I’m hungry. When’s lunchtime here, Dash?”, I asked. “The only thing you’re going to get is a knuckle sandwich, dweeb!”, Dash snapped at me. Ben sighed as he placed earplugs into his ears and continued to work.

The week was a rough one to stomach while living at the Obelisk Blue dorm. I can’t even figure out how many times Prof. Mokuba yelled at me to wear the Blue uniform during the first three days. That guy seriously hates my guts! Ben was having it rough too, no thanks to Dash. Because of his anger, he is always starting an argument with me and the poor guy isn’t able to study his hardest since he is always breaking our arguments up. I feel sorry for him. During the final days of the week, the arguments only got worse between us. Meanwhile, my sister and the rest of my friends weren’t having it as tough as we were….

Mikey sighed softly as he floated in the waters of the indoor pool of the Obelisk Blue dorm. He looked up at the ceiling and said, “Well, this isn’t so bad. It’s living proof that the Obelisks are definitely higher on the food chain than us Slifers. Pro chefs directly from Amaria to cook their every meal, each student gets their own room instead of sharing with roommates, and this relaxing pool! ...Although, I guess when it comes right down to it, I prefer Slifer Red more. I am always with my friends.” He blinked when he heard someone yell “Cannonball!” He yelped as he saw a flash of black and white land in the pool next to him, submerging him into the water. He finally surfaced, coughing harshly to see Ranko next to him laughing.

“Sorry about that, Mikey! I guess my aim was a bit off.”, Ranko state. “A bit?! You would’ve not only drowned me, but crushed me in the process!”, Mikey exclaimed. “Relax, kid. It’s no big deal. So, you said your last name was Redheart? Does that mean your father is Jonathan Redheart, perhaps?”, Ranko said, swimming around in the water slightly. Mikey wheezed as he got the rest of the water out of his lungs and said, “Yeah, that’s him.” “What a coincidence. My mother knew him back when they were kids.”, Ranko said, peeling back his ginger hair from his eyes. “Really? Your mom knows my dad?”, Mikey said with a surprise. Ranko nodded and said, “Yup! She always talked about how your dad would go on and on and on about nanotechnology, robotics, and many other mechanical things when they were in school together. She admired his love for the field of mechanics.” Mikey chuckled and said, “That definitely sounds like my dad.”

The two laughed as they continued to swim together, chatting away the day about their parents. Meanwhile, at the Exodia Purple campus…

“Wow, look at this place! It has its own art studio!”, Jessie said, finding the art room that was in the building. “Yeah, Exodia Purple’s dorm is basically like a town on its own right. It has everything a person could possibly want and then some. We even have a karaoke room fully stocked with instruments.”, Robin said, packing her bag with all her school supplies for the day. “Really?! I love music!”, Crystal said in astonishment. Robin chuckled and said, “Perhaps one of these days, we can get everyone together and have a jam session. I was once told I could play the drums rather well.” “Of course!”, Crystal replied. “All done!”, Jessie said. Robin and Crystal looked at her and their jaws dropped when she saw her holding a painting of herself and the others in front of them. “Wow, Jessie! You painted that? And in only 15 minutes!?”, Crystal asked. “Uh-huh. Art is my passion. I’ve always been really good at it.”, Jessie said. Robin looked at the picture and said, “Wow, you included everyone in here. Ha, even Dash is here.”

“Dash isn’t such a bad guy. He’s only had a bad past, that’s all. We just need to work with him to peel back that rough exterior of his and we’ll see he is a rather kind person.”, Jessie said with a smile. Crystal chuckled and her ears twitched slightly. “What is it, Crystal? You hear something?”, Robin asked. Crystal sighed and said, “It’s Onyx and Dash again. They’re arguing.” “Again?!”, Robin exclaimed.

Meanwhile, over at the Obelisk Blue campus…

‘This is a library! How could they start an argument in a library!?’, Ben thought to himself, Dash and I yelling above his head. “What could possibly possess you to pour hot soup on my head, Dash!?”, I exclaimed. “Well, perhaps if you didn’t sit beside me in the cafeteria, maybe it wouldn’t have happened, Sairenji!”, Dash sneered. “THAT’S IT! I can’t take it anymore!”, Ben exclaimed, grabbing his things and bolting out of the library doors. “See what you did now, Slifer slime?”, Dash stated. “What I DID?!”, I exclaimed, only to get smacked in the back of the head from a paper fan. I looked behind me to see Prof. Mokuba standing behind me. “Quiet! This is a library! Or have you two forgotten that?”, Mokuba stated. ‘Why was I the only one that got hit?’, I thought to myself, rubbing the back of my head slightly. “No sir, Prof. Kaiba!”, Dash said, getting back to his homework.
Meanwhile, on the outside of the campus, Ben was sitting down underneath a shady tree. “Ugh, what’s the point? Even if I decided to cram study right now, there’s no possible way I’d pass the graduation exam tomorrow.”, he said softly. “Is something wrong, young child?”, a deep voice said from behind him. He looked to see the Exodia Purple Headmaster standing right behind him. “O-Oh, no ma’am. It’s just…with my rooming arrangements and my ROOMMATES, I haven’t had the time to study at all for the graduation exam I am taking tomorrow.”, Ben stated. “Hmm…that is indeed a tough pill to swallow. Although, let me give you a bit of advice: if you truly want something, don’t let small problems get in the way of stopping you. Just stand up to the problems and go for it with full confidence. A wise friend of mine said that to me once.”, the Headmaster said.

“You mean Prof. Nomura, don’t you?”, Ben said. The Headmaster chuckled and said, “Exactly.” The mysterious woman looked over towards the Slifer Red and Ra Yellow dorms and said, “Besides, if you fail this time, you can always try again later. Right?” Ben went silent for a few minutes, then looked at the masked woman and nodded. The Headmaster patted Ben on his head with the claw gauntlet on her right arm and said, “Good luck.” Ben watched as the woman walked away in the other direction, leaving him behind. ‘She’s right. I just got to try my best, no matter what.’, the young feline thought, picking up a few of the books he had and began to read and study more.

Finally, Friday….the LAST DAY of the school week. Fortunately for me, this was the one week of the month that I didn’t have a class at all. While Dash and the others were gone, I took the liberty of getting the rest and relaxation I needed from everything that happened….for a few moments. When I woke up, I took the liberty to take a stroll over to the Slifer Red dorm, only to be welcomed with a great surprise…

“It’s done! The building is repaired!”, I stated with a happy grin. “Ah, Onyx. You found out before everyone else, huh?”, I heard a voice said. I looked over to my left and saw Yugi sharing a cup of tea with Tea and Nori. “Chancellor Muto, good afternoon!”, I said. “Good afternoon to you too, young child. As you can see, both buildings are complete. I was going to send the message later during lunchtime, but since you have no classes today, I do believe you can go on and move back in. You’ll find that all of your valuables have not had any harm to the explosion.”, Yugi said. “Really? I can move back in!?”, I exclaimed. “Yes. Just don’t blow anything up any more.”, Nori joked. “Also no more falling asleep in my class. You may have a high grade, but you don’t need that accident happening again.”, Tea said, sipping gently from the teacup. “Yes, ma’am.”, I said with an apologetic tone. I then turned to the Red Dorm and smiled as I ran inside and hopped into the elevator.

“That boy certainly lives a carefree life, doesn’t he, Nori?”, Tea asked. Nori nodded and said, “The entire family is like that to a certain extent. I guess that’s why I don’t really have a problem with them.” He finished his tea and said, “Well then, I must return to Amaria. Do keep an eye out on this place, will you?” “Of course. Oh, Nori! Tell me…any news? Any at all?”, Yugi asked with a worried look in his face. Tea recognized that look and question: most people do nowadays. Nori shook his head and said, “Still the same. But, we all keep praying for his return soon.” Yugi sighed softly as Nori disappeared in a black cloud, leaving him and Tea behind.

As soon as that occurred, I had finally returned to my room, hopping into my bed immediately. I certainly missed my room. I heard my PDA go off when I noticed that Ben had sent me a message…

“Ben? What is it?”, I asked. “Just thought you’d like to know the scores to my graduation exam.”, he said. “Oh, that’s right! How did it go?”, I asked. Ben sighed and said, “I failed by one point.” I winced and said, “I am so sorry. I know that the blame is mainly mine and Dash’s.” Ben shook his head and said, “Relax. I knew I would fail either way. Besides, I realized something: the time I spent in the Obelisk dorm made me realize that it’s not time for me to join them just yet. I’ll take my time and study some more, then graduate at the same time with my fellow classmates.” I smiled softly and said, “Good choice. Oh, guess what! The Slifer and Ra dorms are complete! Everyone can go home now!”

Once I said that, the message ran through the campus like wildfire. Everyone in the Ra and Slifer classes were ecstatic that they could finally return to their dorms. I sighed happily as I saw Jessie, Mikey, and Crystal walk into the room when their classes ended, each of them eagerly telling me of their times away. Apparently, Mikey made a new friend here in Slifer Red: a panda boy named Ranko Hibiki. Crystal and Jessie had fun too with Robin, each day was a new experience for them. Both of them were eagerly awaiting the day that they too would be one of the Exodias. As for me, I’m just glad I have a place here in Slifer Red. No matter what, this was and always be my home…
