Wind Art (the unicorn mare) launches the spell while Bookmark Act (the stallion) holds a scrapbook about a Time Traveler Mare named Macdolia. Since the spell uses mares as catalysts, the scrapbook is used too and that causes a spell failure. The magic didn't change Bookmark into a female: it created Macdolia instead.
