Really heartwarming to see them not just love each other but love their children unconditionally.
As for what the hell to say, tell others that you went to a party where someone decided to spike the punch and you don't remember quite what happened that evening. Or that the father cheated on you while you were pregnant with the little ones - you refuse to even say the name of the loser and that your brother stepped up to help care for your foals and be the father figure.
