It's actually the latter, though I did decide on it pretty quickly after realizing she shouldn't be stuck that way permanently. I have yet to get around to even sketching out a picture to actually explain it directly, though. :I

oh man i'm imagining all sorts of ways this could be used.. maybe have the orbs angle the plates on "top" of themselves to act as stepping stones across water, or one of them peel off a few less-essential plates and rocket towards a foe like a misshapen cannonball .. i dunno X3 it's just really cool.

The idea right now is that the orbs can only maintain the plates for a few hours before the plates violently fly off of them (i.e. they explode) and they have to "recharge," but those are totally viable ideas.
