Hanako was a small child born in a small village. Fated to live a rough life, she was born with two tails. Her own parents tried to kill her, but failed. She was  forced to live on the streets. At the age of 7, the village, marking her as a freak, a sin against nature, and the gods they worshiped, banished her to the mountains in the village outskirts.

She roamed the mountainside, becoming exhausted from crying until her eyes were red and sore. Blisters forming and tearing on the bottom of her feet, as she was forced to keep walking. With no survival skills, she soon collapsed from hunger and fatigue. The elements of wind, and rain had battered her skin and soaked her fur, nearly freezing her to the bone.

As all she could do now was beg for death to embrace her in its arms, she had nearly been granted her peace. However, she was saved by an old man named Kisuke who lived in the mountains. Kisuke fed her, and basically brought her back to life. Hanako soon shone light in her eyes once again. There existed a bond between Kisuke and Hanako. She was proud to call him her new father. Never had she been shown such kindness in all of her life. They often had picnics in the mountains, and played games inside when it would rain. Kisuke shared stories with Hanako, sometimes making her laugh for the first time in her life.

As Hanako got older, Kisuke taught Hanako survival skills, and how to live on nature's bounty. He taught her how to hunt, and how to sneak up on your prey. Kisuke also taught her the ninja's way of the sword. How to stay light, and on your feet. To never feel pain again. Hanako never had to use these skills however, but years passed and she kept practicing, becoming swift, and getting better than even kisuke with a blade. She continued to live her happy life, until one fateful night...

It was the night before Hanako's 15th birthday, and she was settling down to sleep in her room... Who knows why, but the fates were determined to remind her of her past, and the horrid people that sent her into the mountains all of those years ago. She tossed and turned in her sleep, clutching her blanket as she did so. She even started clawing at the floorboards in desperation. Desperation to kill them... kill everyone who was ever cruel to such a little girl who did nothing wrong... In a trance-like sleepwalking state, Hanako awoke from her slumber, and stole out of the house swiftly and silently.

She returned to the village where she was born. The village where everyone looked at her as though she was a monster. In just one night, Hanako made the screams of the villagers echo in the night sky. She murdered man, woman, and child alike. No one from this wretched village was innocent in her eyes. She burned the village whole, whether anyone was alive inside or not. Sometimes she would wait outside of burning houses, waiting for survivors to run out, and slay them on the spot. With insanity in her eyes, and desperation in her heart, she made sure that no living soul would leave that village alive. As the smell of burning flesh and fur arose in clouds of smoke, Hanako arched her head back and starting laughing maniacally at the stars in the sky, The stars that used to keep her awake as a child, as they reminded her of all the glaring eyes from the villagers.

As the sun rose, she returned to Kisuke's house. The house where she was raised. The house where she had hoped to continue living a happy life with Kisuke. The only person n her life to ever show her kindness... Exhausted, she fell asleep when she arrived in her bed. When she awoke, she had noticed that morning tea had not been set. She got up, and changed out of her bloodied clothes. She went to check on Kisuke to make sure he was okay, but he wasn't in his room. She went to look outside and he wasnt there either. Perhaps he was hunting in the mountains, she thought as she sat outside waiting for his return. But he didn't return, even by sundown.

A droplet hit her forehead, and she figured it was about to rain. As she wiped the drop off her brow, she looked at her hand to discover the red she had seen so much last night... She looked up and saw the drops of blood coming from the rooftop. She jumped up to investigate, and to her horror, found Kisuke's mangled body tied up onto the roof. She was gasping for air in disbelief. A voice from behind her startled her, it was the country's law force. They were here in response to a message from Kisuke himself that he wrote after learning of Hanako's deeds that night: To capture Hanako, and bring her in to be executed as an insane criminal. They stated that Kisuke planned to kill himself in shame for having raised such a murderous rogue. The shame that he was responsible for hundreds of deaths, and he couldn't live with the guilt. Hanako's blood-red eyes shone with fury, as she slaughtered the lawmen on the spot.

She left Kisuke's house, and haunted the countryside. She was no longer just Hanako. She forgot how to cry. She forgot how to laugh. She was an apparition at large. She slayed anyone who she happened upon. She figured anyone would just label her a freak, or a demon. Thus she roamed, devoid of emotion and thought. Just a driving will to kill, laughing as she did so...

And thus she was called...
