In the wild losing a battle usually implies death, capture or other unsavoury fates. Erebus may be used to fighting but like most living creatures his body wears with it. Still, the Jolteon would rather fight to the last breath when cornered. With lighting on his side and his blood burning whoever is on the other side will have a tough time taking him down.
