Normally I don't bother with 3D competitions because I don't have the time, but 6 weeks ago BlenderGuru.com had one that I really wanted to enter. The theme was CHARACTERS. The theme alone wasn't enough. No, I had an idea that I was actually excited about and I wanted to do it before anybody else thought about it.

Competition ends today.

I might finish it, but since it has no possibility for monetary gain nor BlendShow development, chances seem slim.

Squirrel.

At the very least, you've gained skill working with a deadline, and the modeling practice doesn't hurt.

Are the eyes separate from the head's mesh or are they modeled as part of it?  I'm thinking the latter from what I can see.

The eyes are separate, but the edges match up with the head, so it's practically part of the head. I wasn't sure how I wanted them to operate, since they wouldn't fit the shape very well if they were spherical.
In the end, I think the eyes will move via texture offset instead of physical movement, especially since I'm not going to animate it.
