I always thought the "you meet in an inn" was too cliche, so in my first campaign they were all working on the same starship from the beginning.

My current campaign they were all contacted by the same client and invited to his keep, but things stalled shortly after the client revealed his horribly thought out plan.  Which it was kind of supposed to be, they're supposed to either come up with a different way to accomplish the goal or flat-out betray him.
