So, yes, I’m making the familiars a free for all ‘species’ you can use if you’d like to. If you want to commission a design from me, feel free to ask, but I have no desire to charge if you want to make your own or have someone else do one for you. I’d really just be happy to see people doing more with this concept than I have the time to do. ^^; I love the familiars and the themes revolving around them. They could make for some really interesting stories or even just cool character designs.
You don’t need to ask if you can make something of your own with the concepts here. If you come up with some ideas for familiar characters and stories, those are your ideas to use for your purposes. I’d love to see/read/hear whatever you end up making though! ^^
Concerning familiars that "leap into paintings", I am reminded of the wizard Bovin who did a drawing of a world ruled by evil (dragon in a castle, wizards summoning demons within protective circles, a witch supposedly raising a dead woman [actually a demon in disguise], and the like.). A holy man seeks to raise,contain and command demons by using the Name of God. These demons are not his friends and watch for any part of his robe to cross the protective line. If so, they'd grab the fold, pull him out of the circle, and pull him down to Hell with them, to do as they please with him.
In my fan-fic of Casper, Bovin is stated as having vanished about 300 years ago. Perhaps he fell into one of his paintings. If so, it remains to a familiar to search through paintings, starting with his works, to find and rescue Bovin.
