A true story, though not mine.
A wandering knight, seeking love found a princess. She adored her and protected her and over time, she gave her tender heart to her. The princess returned the knight's affection until one day she saw another knight, and then it was the easiest thing in the world to crush the heart that was no longer protected by the knight's armour, and go.
The knight wanders still, her broken heart safe once more behind her armour.
In happier times, the knight commissioned this picture of herself and her princess. Sometimes I wonder if she has it still or if seeing it brings a twinge of loss.
The original version is very high resolution. I've included some close ups of the detail, for instance the reflections of the armour.
