This is probably the most realistic Sonic Boom version of Shadow I've seen so far. In my opinion, if we base it off what video games do and prevent him from being a Sonic clone, we might just have to go the skills of Shadow from Shadow the Hedgehog video game. In that case, athletic tape should be place properly to help prevent injury and accessories must match.
I imagined him carrying around a rifle, at least some handguns. And based off the video game, he is left-handed. So he might have a more asymmetrical look to him. He needs something to cover his left shoulder(even if it just the tape) to cushion the blow from the recoil of larger guns. And of course there should be some around his trigger finger joints! He should have a holster of some sort, maybe around his thigh since his waist doesn't seem too supportive. Maybe even a bag to store ammo if you would rather have him use that instead of chaos energy.
If one goes with the rifle idea, or at least the big artillery, he should also have athletic tape around his knees for when he aims from a long distance, probably his right knee.
We all know Shadow is considered a faster runner due to his hover skates, and since they give off a fire like thing, I really, REALLY think he shouldn't have tape around his shoes at all. Ankles, yes for support in his skating. He should also be greatly reduced in speed compared to Sonic due to all of his weight he is carrying.
If you want to associate him with the GUN troops, give him an armband with the GUN insignia, and let his neck thing be something that barely touches his chest, but can be pulled up to cover his mouth, similar to what swat teams wear. He couldn't get the upper piece because of his troublesome spines, but at least he is naturally dark with the exception of his mouth and chestfur. I also like seeing his chest fluffies, though he would probably have something so far as a bulletproof vest to help cover it all.! Also, a scarf of your proportion might get burned by his skates; though it does look really, really cool!
Finally, the spines. If, again, we decide him to be more of a shooter, he probably wouldn't move around as much. I really do think Sonic's quills are based off of them being sculpted by the wind to be more...aerodynamic. So in Shadow's case, you can go wild. I want the excuse of him being more likely to fall from a high place to explain their shape.
Does anyone know that athletic tape comes in a wide array of colors? Look at Amy's design around her wrists, they are clearly purple (obviously from having an idea of fashion sense while the boys' just need it). Why wouldn't Shadow go with a black tape to help him hide when sniping? Also consider kinesio athletic tape, it is shaped around the muscles to help support them, and most shoulder based athletic taped uses this method and have an intricate pattern shape. Also, kinesio tape is colored based off of its tension levels. We will be inaccurate here and let it be red to help it all mesh.
Also based off of the SWAT uniform, he might have goggles. Man, Shadow is carrying a lot of weight, at least he is considered to be the ultimate lifeform and should be able to carry it all.
