For those who don't follow me on twitter or don't read my tweets. I talked some days ago about redesigning the characters I've made. I plan to do something big with them (like a game or comic) and with them looking like Sonic characters I probably won't get far with that. Their new looks will make them look less Sonic like or mobian, but still keep some Sonic features. This is what I made so far. To me it looks more like "someone else drew them style rather than a redesign.

I might go with the way I drew SHADE and Maria at the right, the full body sketch. Mar needs to be drawn in that way. The way I drew them there I don't really like. I'll finish the full body one when I decide on a look, so I can use it as a ref for her. I'll make ones for Mar and my other characters as well.

Also that weird evil thing is just something I drew randomly; which I might use as a design for a chao like thing in Mar's world.

Sorry for the white space and it being huge.

Maria was a pasted life of Mar; which is what I originally had planned.
For now her DNA somehow got into his parents. So she would be technically be his mother. Not something I'm really fond of.

You might have to figure out a different design for the spine-like areas on the back of their heads. As they stand now, they still look very Sonic like.

This is one of the main reasons I don't tend not to do OC characters for things like Sonic. You get attached to the character and end up wanting to use them for other things. In the process you basically start tearing down your beloved character and building them up all over again. Which can be a little disheartening . :(

Yeah I might have to change it back there. Mar might just get them shorter. I still like them as they are, one of the Sonic features I like to keep, but I'll see what I can do about it. Want them to be Sonic like but not Sonic/mobians; like Beck is to Megaman.

I know what you them. Tho they were never apart of Sonic, just in design. But since this might cause problem in the future some tweaks have to be made. Still was disheartening to do

i dont think my opinion matters much but i gotta agree with monkey flash. i feel like her spines never really made much sense to me. perhaps if they were shorter or more "echidna" like they would look more natural. i do have to say i love the way you made her muzzle. they actually look like dogs. all too often i see hedgehogs that look like dogs and it just looks off. i also have to add that the facial expressions is top notch, i love that kind of detail thats added. it makes the characters much more believable.

Every opinion matters, but if I'll go with them is another thing. I'll see what I can do about the hair/spines.

Also hedgehogs in real life have muzzle similar to dogs or at least some dogs.

Yeah that's pretty much exactly how I went in designing Siara, trying not to make her a sonic/mobian character, but have some snippets of it let which obviously being her muzzle, and dreads being an echidna and all. I honestly must say I am liking how these designs are coming out so far. I am interested to see how much further you go with this.

I think the spins coming out from the side of the face...when I look at them I think of them as droopy ears sometimes.

Its just me though I do agree with monkey on some points, but I do believe its possible to keep some sonic-like features....because really "sonic like" features were being done before Sonic really came about anyway. The ones on the right below the floating Mar head I think is a great starting point...less is more sometimes. I feel the ones on the top left are too detailed for what your going for....your details have always focused around the simplicity of the design and then you push them from there. Its best to think that way in general.

This is a really good example of what I mean...although there is multiple styles being done, Cloudz I believe found that nice spot in between. Have sonic features, but don't make them recognizable from the get go.

The game won't be hentai game if anyone wanted that.
It'll play like Sonic, Metal Slug, and Metroidvania like games. 2D platformer, going around beating things up, and collecting and saving things.

I'm actually pretty interested to know if you'd go into details with your characters and such in-game, as I've been very curious about their back stories and the organization they work for. The hentai bit doesn't bother me a whole lot. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind one from you, I'd probably still play the fuck out of it.

I definitely like the designs, but as Cabalistic pointed out the drooping spines look like flopping ears. Now I've always like them, but maybe if you're wanting to loose the look of oh hey another Sonic OC, maybe embrace that and make the drooping spines ears. That way the big ears at the top could be used to spikes. I'm not sure how this would look executed really. But I personally really like the designs, but I would say the top left and right corners would be a great solution of the spine problem.

I'm not a fan of drooping ears. Reason I made them husky or something that thinks it's that. When I remove the hair on the back of their head it just looks off to me. I always imagined it to be like an anime haircut. But I'll see what I can do about it.

Ah yes, that makes sense. Well if you would like to have their hair appear anime-like rather than Sonic spike I'd say go with something like Cloud Strife from FF7. http://static1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120429120624/f... Spikey but not necessarily Sonic.
