Well what can I say the Liger's been in a nerdy mood lately and so out of that comes a new aliens species. ^^ As always with new species we'll have a Codex entry on the species and then info on the character himself.

The Verkel. An odd species with no direct terrestrial analogue. While being Warm blooded like a mammal but have a skeletal structure similar to that of a bird and muscle tissue more like that of a reptile. Beyond this they're a monogender species. Normally two mate to produce offspring but in a pinch they are capable of reproducing on their own. Verkel History however does bare some similarities to human history. Their history being a litany of violence and blood shed over religious, racial, and cultural hatred. This extended into an advanced era with the development of nuclear technology. After a century of conventional global warfare they began the use of nuclear arms. Tactical at first which then gave way to strategic. When the dust settled the Verkel homeworld was in it's final death throws. Ash choked the air, and fouled it's now murky dead oceans. Craters and the bones of the forgotten littered the surface. What few survivors their were cobbled their technology together to leave their dieing world. After almost a 50 years they finished the Elvan Verrnair or Garden Keep as it translates. Their destination was a world far off but reachable within 5 generations. However this destination turned out to be a wash. Upon arrival in the system they discovered that the home they had hoped for was no more. A Rogue planet had passed through the system shifting potential home well out of it's star's habitable zone. Met with a frozen waste the Verkel searched their records. There was one other world that held hope. But it would take the Verkel a further 7 Generations to reach it. With no chance of harbor there they departed and continued their journey. By the time they reached the Sol system the Garden Keep was in shambles. It was a good 5 generations beyond it's expected life span and showing it. All but the main engine had permanently failed and it was a constant task to keep the air cycling, water flowing, and food growing. Many believed that they wouldn't make it and simply hoped to die naturally before something critical failed. But as they neared Eath there was hope. A hope quickly quelled by the static that after a few years could no longer be dismissed as a glitch. A Radio bubble. Their new home was already someone else's. In the years they had before they reached Earth they poured over the data coming in. Aside from being a bit larger than their old home Earth was nearly ideal. So much like what they had destroyed so long ago. Even the humans though different in appearance were similar in action to their ancestors. This was a comfort and a fear. They understood these primates. Maybe they could reason with them. Maybe they could prevent what their world had experienced here. Contact was made when the Verkel approached close. Contact of a sort. The Verkel transmitted. The humans remained mute to the signals. Though given the forces on the ground when the Keep descended over New York state and came to a screeching halt with the main engine finally failing after touch down. The Verkel were here to stay. A stand off lasted five days before one Verkel emerged from the vessel. He wore the simplest garb they had. A simple form fitting jumpsuit and held his hands up as he walked. The Garden's lead Linguist. A brave being. He spoke in their own language and a dialogue was opened.  Treaties with the world's governments were brokered. The Verkel would share their technical and scientific skill in exchange for residence on the planet. Well shared with limits. Weapons technology was contentious. But the exchange went through. Thousands of Verkel now found themselves as Earth Citizens. Relations were unusual. The human population at large had every reaction you can expect from Awed curiosity, to Reverence, to fear, and of course hate. But in the end Humanity's curiosity  and in a way greed seemed to outweigh any entrenched hate. Verkel have begun to absorb the local culture and their own has rubbed off in some ways. A number of Verkel Standard words have become popular slang and stories of their Voyage have been turned into box office gold. Adapting to all this though has been a challenge for them. It feels strange having lived all your life, having had generations live their lives, aboard a ship and now to stand on the surface of a planet. To go from eating vat grown meat to something that maybe a month ago was running around. To go from an Algae paste and  distilled water to a Salad and a Soda. From having maybe three options of what to wear to having a huge wardrobe. Quite a shift. Though a welcome one.

"Dear Journal,

Well Earth is cool. Well not literally. Not everywhere at lease. I mean I like it. Trying to get in the habit of using more human Lexicon. Anyway today was my 20th birthday. It was a nice little celebration at home first. Well I'm told it was little. Me, my parents, a friend, and his family.  Though with all the food there I'd say it was huge. I did manage to down a second slice of the cake Mr, no wait Mrs. Jacobs had so kindly made. Gender another thing to remember. Apparently it's offensive to refer to someone by the gender they don't identify as. I guess sometimes a human of one gender will identify as another and apparently that's some kind of big thing. Ancestors I hope I don't screw that up. Anyway it was a nice celebration. Then it got even better. There were a few gifts, one of which was this stuffed toy of an animal called a lion. I told Jeremy I liked them while we watched a show with them and must have asked him a billion questions. I guess he took that as a hint. Another gift was something that had me more excited than I've ever been. Jer,Jeremy said I could call him that, invited me to the zoo with him afterwards. It's a huge complex housing hundreds of different kinds of animals on display. Live ones! I'd never seen a live animal until we landed here. And now I've seen ones from far flung continents. We had a great time. I think me more so than Jer but he seemed pleased with my reactions. We held hands on the way home and well I'm wondering if maybe this isn't part of a mating courtship. If it is...well I guess we'll see where it goes. I need to do some research on that. For now I think I'll get ready for bed. Another odd thing. Different clothes for bed. Odd but nice. The only thing familair among the clothes is this absorbent undergarment like what I usually wear. Though this one is human made. I believe the package wishes you a Good Night though misspells the word Night as Nite.  I don't know if that's an exception to some grammar rule or not. Another thing to look up. Maybe ask Jer about tomorrow. We swap questions about culture a lot. He asked what the Tattoo on my head means. I explained it was symbolized Mind Over Body. He thought that was neat and we talked a bit about it for a while. Oh look at me going off on a tangent again when I should be going to bed. Well until then pleasant sleep cycle.

Sincerely, Voden Se'Vek"

Well hope you guys liked the pic and the info and story stuff. ^^
