Every now and then, Ciara takes a break from her shameless skirt chasing ways to pick up her ancestral sword and sally forth to save the kingdom. Again. But then, that's what a princess is for, at least as far as she's concerned. The foxes of Viridis have put up with her family's rule for the last five hundred years, more or less, so they're owed some loyalty in return. Now if only the kingdom could look after itself long enough for her to have the odd quiet night in with her wife!
She looks nice, but I have to say it looks like her choice of fighting attire is impractical. Even if you want to argue that a decent suit of armor is too awkward*, I can't imagine a slit/cocktail dress helping out any in a fight either. I mean, sure, a Scottish kilt was thick enough to keep thistles and thorns out of the wearer's legs, so skirt-like attire that surround the legs does have some practical purpose, but the slit skirt seems like it exposes too much leg to serve that purpose.
*(Footnote: There are some folks who would disagree on armor being too cumbersome for a properly trained warrior, citing that if you're sufficiently trained, you can do just well running, jumping, or even dancing techno. Guy Windsor, a longsword instructor in the Association of Renaissance Martial Arts (ARMA) claims to have actually seen such feats.)

If this had been an actual commission, I would have asked for a more practical outfit. I am well aware of the merits of wearing armor in a melee and given the choice that's how I'd have dressed her. However, this was a free picture, which means that I just handed Joykill a couple of refs and a vague theme and let him go with it. At least one of the refs I gave him did include a somewhat more practical outfit, so I don't know why he picked the dress. Maybe he just liked it. Maybe it was the only ref he looked at. Whatever the case, I wasn't going to sit there and nitpick on someone when they were drawing for me purely out of kindness.
In any case, we're talking about an anthropomorphic fox who's wielding a sword. That is enough of a fantasy in and of itself that I'm willing to overlook the odd break with reality. Maybe she's got magical protection instead, or she's just that much of a badass. I'm happy enough with it as it stands.
