Dr. Nhilus was Jacent's longest-running and most fearsome foe. However, a towering intellect does not make one good at heavy lifting or combat. So these mechanical minions were constructed, never having a proper name by the Swiss clockmaker himself, but being called 'Nhiloids' colloquially.
It is unknown even to Jacent- who has plowed through these metal underlings by the hundreds- why Nhilus chose to make two separate 'genders' of nhiloid, nor why they had a tendency to creepily mutter unintelligible things at all times. A mystery buried in the past.
