I've come to realize that >perceptiveness< is a vital component in artistic talent. The better artists are the ones who perceive this or that little trick of anatomy or point of technique and incorporate it into their work.
The same thing is a variable with people who aren't artists, too. Some are just more perceptive than others. The less perceptive ones don't see this difference in fur marking, or that detail with eye shape. And some miss that this guy has completely different ears or an entirely different number of horns, etc.
