Isn't that always the case? now that we can talk to anyone around the world it's obvious we would eventually make attachments to some of these people. i have never truly fallen in love with someone on the internet but i have felt the weaker versions, having a friend go through something horrible and being powerless to help them, just wanting to give them a hug or defend them.
i know that is nothing like being in love and not being able to see them but i'd say it was on the same wavelength.
either way i wish you luck and hope you are able to move on in time.
