I enjoy doing digital art, but when I get commissioned for a fully colored, background-having piece on my special marker paper, I do believe I feel some bliss. This is the commission I've been working on for the last month and a half, in the midst of moving to my new place and upgrading my life in general. This is also the first piece with light colors like blue, white and gray that I've scanned with my brand-spanking-new scanner, and will you look at that, the colors show up. I can't express my joy enough about this.
For this picture, I paid special attention to creating texture. I used colored pencils to dot in some leather looking bits on the boots, belts and hat, and did the same on the hilt of the sword for a beaten brass look (hopefully). The boards of the ship were done with just a simple and careful sweeping motion, and the water was much the same, though I used some white acrylic paint on the froth, too.
And now for the hefty list of tools used in this picture:
Copics C1-C9, W1-W7, B000, B02, B14, B91, B93, B06, G07, Y15, Y28, Y38, YR24, R01, , R05, R17, R46, R89, E00, E29, E33, E44, E47. Colored pencils for highlights, outlines and detailing. Acrylic white paint. Bristol smooth paper.
