Reinhardt notices Messler is tense and gently lifts his chin up to the shorter officer's gaze meets his, in an effort to make it plain he has no intention of being like his predecessor, Toberg, and has a deep and abiding interest in the Hauptmann on a very personal level. Messler is still a little unsure, but not resisting, either.
