"[Phrenology] is the theory that mental faculties are manifested as separate segments of the brain, which thus means the construction of one’s psychology can be determined by the shape of the skull. Conventional phrenology reason dictates that the shape of the skull is also determined by each species, and thus the skull of certain animals are not conducive to the growth of certain mental faculties. This is often used as a method to support racial superiority of predator species."
I spent way too much time looking into actual phrenology charts for this and a bit of time studying mouse and lion skulls. A lot of the details were fudged for a lot of reasons, mainly that I didn't have time to look up 20 words that we don't use any more, and furry phrenologists would be more concerned with other concepts.
That's incredibly well done. I could almost imagine someone having statues of these on their desk. Although... >.>... seeing as they vary based on species, I can't help but wonder how much larger the lust portion would be on a rabbit....

I took this image as an excuse to educate myself on phrenology. I had only known it as a pseudoscience used by the Nazi's and others to legitimate a ranking of one individual (or race) over another.
Turns out, while this had been indeed the case in the 20th century, phrenology when it was new in the beginning of the 19th century - was actually a remarkable scientific theory that had - at its time - many things right and was a necessary first step in the right direction of both modern neurology and psychiatry.
The main popular aspects of phrenology, associating certain character treats to specific areas of the brain, as well the ability to "read" the size and development of these areas through the outside form of the skull are - frankly - bullshit. We know that today
However at the time the theory was new it made a remarkabale amount of *correct* assumptions, including: - the brain is the organ that defines character and behaviour of a person physiologically - certain areas of the brain correspond to certain "functions" - including - higher cognitive functions like thoughts and memory - sensory functions related to the senses - feelings and emotions - even their ideas of the brain being divided into individual "organs" is correct (allthough the topology is a bit different) - the size of an area responsible for a certain "function" is correlating with how developed that function is in an individual - mental deficiencies can be caused by the corresponding part of the brain being underdeveloped, defective or injured! - in psychatric application - such deficiencies can be partially compensated by training and education
compared to that the list of what they had wrong is relatively short: - the position of the brain "functions" is not as fixed as phrenologists assumed - the phrenologists brain maps are simply wrong and therefore are paper waste (beautiful artistic paper waste though ;) ) - you cannot tell how the brains components are functioning or positioned by the outside shape of the skull or even the physical shape of the brain - you need an MRT for that ;) (especially since the brain can adapt with an extremely high level of flexibility. theres one known case where a person had developed only half a brain, yet had absolutely normal cognitive functions as his other half had taken over the tasks with no disability at all, it was only found out by chance when the person had a head xray for unrelated reasons)
come to think of it, what we nowadays call bullshit was once the bleeding edge of modern science. I wonder what of nowadays modern science will tomorrow be called bullshit and laughed upon like phrenology is these days :-)

i did some comparing between the two and i noticed the decreased size in locality in the mouse along with time and justice seems strange to me knowing somewhat of the feral instincts of the two... just me letting you know i still think its great tho :D
