Have you ever wondered why dragons often have backwards facing horns which wouldn't offer much offense if used in a fight? Specially considering they have claws and teeth and magic and fire so why ram their head into things? Where, there's only one reason I could think of....

They are for defense, not offense.
They protect the head/skull and spine from being susceptible to physical attacks by other dragons or otherwise creatures that might dare to attack one.
