I am working on my first fursuit project, a pair of matching partial red fox fursuits for my daughter and myself. With luck, they will make their first con appearance at Worldcon 2013 in San Antonio, TX, August 28th to September 2nd.

This is my first attempt at making a fursuit head.

The jaw moves as I talk, moving with my own jaw. It can open more than 6 inches in an extreme facial gesture like a yawn, and in normal talking opens about an inch.

The follow-me eyes have a better than 90 degree arc of vision (45 degrees left and right), and I can see as well as when wearing sunglasses, because the wide vertical-slit pupils of the eyes are sunglasses lenses. I can wear glasses inside the head and can read fine print while wearing it, or navigate in a fairly dark room. I added a clear plastic 'cornea' to the eyes, so they have very realistic reflection highlights.

The three-fan cooling system is powered by eight AA batteries, located at the back of the head to counterweight the muzzle. I can also substitute a single 9V battery, and run the fans 25% quieter but also 25% slower. At full power, the two main fans provide a 20 cubic foot per minute heat exhaust out through the ears, while a smaller 5 cubic foot per minute fan in the muzzle blows air in through the mouth and into the wearer's face. The three fans are rated for a noise level of just 34 DB when all three are running. I can hear quite well while wearing it, even with the fans going. The power switch is inside the right cheek, where it can be reached through the mouth.

The fur is completely stitched together and stitched in place, with hot-melt glue used only around the eye openings and a couple places near the temples. Teeth and the nose are made with FIMO clay, and the tongue and roof of the mouth are made with fun foam.

The hair is styled into a pony tail, but can also be worn down and loose for a more feminine look.

Ceera Murakami Productions is the business name I will be using when I start taking commissions.

Cooling Fan system? Excellent!

Many fur suits go wrong in this little area!
