Poor edna plushie

People ask me why i don't produce these anymore, the answer is easy... Math

Doing a single picture commission takes me 6 hours average.. i charge USD$50 per pic
Each Edna fox doll was hand made, it wasn't a mass production thing made by chinesse workers.. so the production costs wasn't that that cheap.. the average of time working on each doll (including clothes) was around 24 hours.. i don't remember if i selled these for $100 or $150 ....but if you ignore the raw materials costs just the time productions was a inferior profit than doing drawings..   let's say the prices was too low for compare with pictures commissions and too high for a plushie doll...

in total we did like 10 cute Edna dolls, so those people who have them are really lucky ^^

Yea, they were adorable, but I completely understand why it wouldn't have been profitable. Way too much hand work hours to do it as well as you did. And there simply would not be enough orders for it to do it any other way. Any sort of outsourced toy and doll producer that could have made something similar would have needed to make hundreds or thousands to be a practical project.

This is why I feel bad for some artists.... less than $10 per hour. As for the plushies, I totally understand. I spoke with a guy who co-owns a plushie business that comes out to a local con every year. They have one of the biggest plushie businesses in Canada from what I understand. I asked them about making custom plushies of people's fursonas, and he said the same thing.

The time and material costs would far exceed anything most people are willing to pay, and that's with little or no profit being made. It's really just not practical. The reason big businesses can make them for cheap is through mass production, using assembly lines and expensive equipment.

I remember that you even made some concept pictures for the boxes. I thought that you were gonna really streamline them.

Maybe, someday it will work out to a massive operation of all the SD characters, never know huh? Selling them in stores on almost every continent.

You should give me advice on how you made these for we'd all love some McInTots plushies

That'd be one way to fix the problem of people wanting those. Just release the "blueprints", maybe under an appropriate Creative Commons license, and people crafty enough can make them themselves.

Well, as pointed out in my comment, I meant advice on making a plush so that plushes of McInTots characters can be made. Do you know McInTots?

I remember those.  You were selling her for $60 at first, but then later jumped the price up before discontinuing them.  I wish I had the opportunity to buy one, but when she was on sale, I just didn't have the spare resources.  :/

Those dolls are like the gold plated Nintendo world championship cartridges of the furry Universe. Could probably sell them on inkbunny and retire happy.
