Personality

Fickle, easily offended and angered, and too quick to judge or form a definite opinion of things. Gem doesn't have much confidence in himself outside of battling, though he can usually hide this well. He's adopted the habits of Peril and Grievous, and acts much as they do, joking around and getting a kick out of the misfortunes of others, pulling pranks, and the like (though this may also be attributed to Bloodstone's mild bullying earlier on). There is, however, a better side to him, though only those closest to him ever get to see it. He does try to help others in that he gives advice based on his own experiences, and tries hard to prevent anyone from making mistakes he's made, though sometimes he comes off as being negative and even bossy when doing this. He is somewhat of a pessimist, as well as a very (and somewhat understandably) overprotective husband and father.

Short, even for his species. Has very long ears. Somewhat alarmingly underweight, possibly because of the way he died. His eyes are made of emerald, he has a garnet on his chest, and on his back are an amethyst, and aquamarine, and ironically, a bloodstone.

Background/History – Bloodstone's slightly younger brother, raised on part of the range of mountains that links to Mount Silver. It's been obvious from the very beginning that Bloodstone is favored over Gem in nearly every way, by everyone, including their parents. The two shared a sibling rivalry that of sorts that shows few signs of letting up even in their adult years, except for being much more one-sided. Bloodstone never had anything against Gem. E just picked on him and belittled him a lot. As older brothers often do.

The opposite is unfortunately not true; Gem LOATHES Bloodstone. His self-image became so deplorable and his hatred so deeply-rooted that by the time gem was about 170,000 (17 in human years), he wouldn't put up with it anymore and ran away from home. He'd attempted this four other times, but this time he never changed his mind, and made sure his tracks were covered well by a blizzard. Attempts by his family to find him were fruitless.

Despite not being found, leaving in the middle of a blizzard may not have been the best idea for Gem. His eyesight has always been terrible (he can only see what is directly in front of him, and even then it's still blurry), so he normally would rely on his heightened senses of sound, touch and smell to get around, but in a blizzard, even they were useless. He may have remained lost for days or stumbled off the edge of a steep cliff in the mountain, had he not been found by Lazuli, a Sneasel who happened to run into him on her way home.

Being half Ice-type and much more adept at navigating through a blizzard, she was able to bring him to her home, a somewhat small alcove in the side of the next mountain over from the one he left, though the trek took a couple days, and meanwhile the blizzard never stopped.

A week after they reached the alcove, the blizzard had stopped, though Gem no longer had any intentions to leave, and Lazuli was in no rush to kick him out. The two had grown a close bond during their journey, and during his stay. Unfortunately, Lazuli was a living being, and Gem is a ghost. They stayed together until she and their two children eventually died of old age and illness.

Gem learned his lesson all too well. He stayed in the same alcove for nearly 100,000 years, unwilling to leave or make friends with anyone. He never wanted to experience the loss of a loved one again, and thus didn't want to let himself get close to anyone again.

Eventually, though, the solitude became just as painful, and he left the alcove. With nowhere to go, no reason to look back, and a mild hatred for the mountains that held so many bitter memories for him, he settled on leaving to see the rest of the world (bear in mind he greatly underestimated how big the world actually is). Halfway down the mountain, he came across a young adult human by the name of Klaww who offered him a home, and in the future, power. He told Gem of the system of regional Leagues, in which Pokemon are trained by humans to become vastly powerful, and prove their abilities in battles against the worlds' strongest trainers.

The idea of somehow proving his worth to both himself and everyone else appealed to Gem, so he took the offer. He was never actually captured, however. Klaww made sure never to take any kind of freedom away from Gem, instead letting him keep the choice to either stay and pursue his training, or leave for whatever reason. He brought Gem to his home in Ecruteak, and the two started off by training in the Burned Tower.

It was there that Gem met his current two best friends, a Haunter and Gastly named Peril and Grievous, respectively. Peril and Grievous never wanted much of anything to do with humans or battles, but they agreed to help Gem reach his goal however they could. The three practiced battling for months until Gem was eventually good enough to beat Peril in battle.

Then Klaww had Gem battle against the local gym leader's Gengar uninstructed as a test, though it wasn't an official gym challenge. Gem barely won.

After that, Klaww decided Gem was ready to take on a League challenge. Gem, though reluctant to leave his friends, was more interested in trying to defeat a League other than Johto, eager to see more of the world he never explored on his own.

Together, Gem and Klaww took on the Hoenn League challenge without the help of any other Pokemon, and they were rather successful ... until they got to the seventh gym, which requires the use of two Pokemon against the gym leaders.

Begrudgingly, Gem sought out a potential new member of the “team” (and food) in the nearby Shoal Cave. In the lowest part of the save, he met Chillie, a Froslass who had been re;eased there by her trainer after they had conquered the Johto League in similar fashion to Klaww and Gem. Gem was immediately infatuated by Chillie (though still a little reluctant to pursue romance after Lazuli's death), but she didn't at ALL feel the same infatuation. The two didn't get along well as a result, but Chillie, bored of living alone and itching for the battlefield once more, agreed to help Gem just for this one gym battle.

The two managed to impress each other with their fighting skills, though, and Chillie, reminded of how much she loved the sport, begrudgingly decided to put up with Gem's increasing advances and join him and Klaww as a team member. She gave Klaww the Dive Ball she'd originally been caught in and had kept in the hope of finding a new trainer.

Through the rest of their journey, Gem and Chillie did start to gradually open up to each other more, and a relationship formed between them. After they entered both the Hoenn and Sinnoh Halls of Fame and finally returned to Ecruteak, they had an accident. That accident hatched into an infant female Sableye, named after both Gem and Chillie.

Habits – Though he has been thoroughly trained over a period of multiple years, Gem still often acts like a wild Sableye, climbing walls and ceilings, digging for his own food, and maintaining very sharp claws. Possibly his strangest habit is that he sleeps with his eyes open. Since his eyes lose their glow while he sleeps, and he doesn't breathe, he looks more like an inanimate corpse than a ghost in his sleep. He usually tries to speak English no matter who he talks to, but he never was able to lose the weird accent he has due to speaking outside of his native language, and often makes mistakes when speaking it.

Trivia – Before he died, Gem was a human child with a deformity that kept him from retaining anything he ate. He died of malnourishment at the age of 6, and for some reason, was originally meant to be sent to Hell. Gem is my favorite of my OCs, and has been for a long time. Originally, Gem was only meant to be a supporting character to Klaww, but now it's vice-versa. Gem's physical design has most likely changed the least of all my OCs. If I could pick any voice actor for Gem, it would be Tim Curry (as he was in the 90's, not currently). Dark Pulse is his strongest and most preferred move because he has so many negative emotions to power the attack with. Ironically, even though he is nearly blind, his ability not to lose any more accuracy is called Keen Eye.

Sexual Description – Strictly heterosexual. Doesn't usually last very long due to his heightened senses, which includes very sensitive touch. Has sort of a thing for Ice types.
