I hate using black bricks in MLCAD. I just do. It's difficult for me to see the part edges, which makes it even more difficult to line them up correctly. I also hate black bricks because they bur into each other when you print the instructions, and are indistinguishable from each other unless you have them positioned just right under a light source prior to printing.
Anyways, enough of my ranting. For those curious, this is the "6887 Allied Avenger" from the Blacktron sub-theme of Lego's Space series. I'm not entirely sure what role this starship falls into, but my best guess is that it is some type of starfighter. Similar to many Space sets of its time, the Allied Avenger's cockpit can separate at the neck from the main body through the use of opposing 2x2 peg brick and a 1x2 hole brick. This feature allows it to "link up" to other sets that possessed a similar feature, allowing for a wide range of customized play.
Additionally, for the curious, no, the Minifig in the cockpit did not come with the original set. He's my Test Guy, a MOC Minifig; he and his co-workers (whom are also called "Test Guy") fill in for other Minifigs that I'm too lazy to create.
Constructed in MLAD/Rendered in LDView.
