Astro Boy died in a final film where he sacrificed himself to use a device to prevent a solar disaster. An extension of the story has him survive, BUT is dislocated back in time and, after extended periods of dormancy, even meeting a young Dr.Ochanomizu and helping him, finally runs out of fuel and falls dormant on a hillside, eventually rusting and corroding away over the years.
Oddly, his newly built self will not activate on the Electronic Slab until somebody destroys Astro Boy's rusted remains.
