First (decent) remix I've ever done within a single day. This is the final product of about 7 hours' work. I are proud :3
Also probably my first attempt at a trance-y sorta remix. Probably. I'm not entirely sure this is mellow enough to count as trance, but I do like the result I got.
Technically I did use parts from both the fiery and icy side themes, but it's clear this suits the icy side much better. I mean, it's got high-pitched bells. Every ice theme has high-pitched bells, man. C'mon.
this is too sinister too be the main level music :P i'd mostly approve of it for an ice-side boss theme. ...but not fully because i don't think it's happy enough to be included in tooie. even the boss music in that game was kind of happy/exciting. and it's not mellow enough to be cave music, the type with plodding tones and reverb like in parts of this song.
either way, good job. you got close to having the feel of the game songs, which isn't easy. a lot of people don't pay as much mind to the original feel as you did.

I didn't really pay much attention to the original on purpose... The point of a remix is to put your own spin on the theme and do what you want with it. If I were doing a reorchestration, then I'd be more concerned about how much it sounded like the original.
Thanks, though.

banjo kazooie and tooie had lots of what i would call remixes of their own songs within the games for different parts of each stage, i'm sure you noticed. and each one of those managed to sound significantly different while still following the same theme. so that's what i was expecting this to be.
so... i don't agree with that take on remixes at all, but i guess that doesn't matter. and i'm sure my opinion isn't that important to you either--nor should it be. i guess i'll have to see about liking your future remixes if they don't remind me of the original as much as this one did.

Those weren't really remixes so much as arrangements.
A remix should be recognizable as what it is: a REMIX of the ORIGINAL, but if all you're doing is changing the instruments a bit and putting different drums on it, well, that's just a reorchestration and anyone can do that. Good remixers should be able to take a theme and make it their own while still being true enough to the original that you can tell what it is. That's what I was trying to do. I wanted it to sound like it could have been a regular trance song and not directly from a game, but using the game's melody.

mmhmm... i just hear you trying to justify your desire to do whatever you want just like most "remixers" on ocremix and the like. XD talk about anyone can do it... what actually takes skill is making the original song into a new genre of music without rearrangement except where it would have a huge impact. not just giving everything new insturments and playing with the overall tempo but changing the timings of notes and such. like all the variations on the themes of one or two songs at the center of the soundtracks of snes rpgs, for example. and you almost did that. your song had the same feel as the original did, and that's a remixing feat in my book. if you don't like that your song had that quality, you can change it in your next remix, and i likely won't like it. or you can think about it and try to incorporate other viewpoints into your understanding, which is what artists usually do to improve. like how i think it's dumb you "didn't really pay too much attention to the original."
i like how i was just complimenting you but you got defensive and turned this into an argument. and i like how you continued it after i blatantly said you didn't need to listen to my opinion (even though i think considering it would be a good idea). just... chill XD

I think you might have misjudged me a little on this. If I didn't care about everyone's opinion, then I wouldn't even allow comments on anything I do in the first place. If I didn't care about creativity or originality, then I would try to make my remixes still sound the same as the original instead of bringing something new to it. If I wanted to have an argument, I'd just get off the Internet and go talk to my mom for longer than 5 minutes. Obviously I like remixes for different reasons than you. I know I'm probably not going to change that, but if no one ever listened to anyone's opinion than their own given one, no one would ever learn or discover anything new. That's why I bother talking to anyone who thinks differently than me. It's just sad that some consider that an argument when that's not what I was trying to do at all.
